James Edward Chrisman

James Edward Chrisman

Rev. James Edward “Jimmy” Chrisman, 74, of Berea, died on April 23, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY. He was born on August 28, 1943 in Middletown, OH, and was the son of the late George Carr and Lucy Chrisman.

Jimmy was a devout Christian who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served Him as a Baptist Minister for 56 years and was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Chrisman; two children: Rev. Dr. David (Rebecca) Chrisman, Melissa (Jeffrey) Abrams; two stepchildren: Hugh (Beth) Williams and Dana (Nathan) Stocke; two brothers: Bobby (Sue) Chrisman and Freddy Chrisman; and one sister: Deborah (Paul) Bicknell; nine grandchildren: Zachary (Courtney) Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Samuel Chrisman, Amanda Abrams, Megan Abrams, Jesse Abrams, Elisabeth Ann Harrington, Aaron and Andrew Williams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Planck, and one sister-in-law Darlene (Freddy) Chrisman.

Visitation will be 4-9 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2018 and the Funeral Service is noon Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home in Berea, KY with Rev. Dr. David Chrisman and Rev. Randy Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow in Madison County Memorial Gardens in Richmond, KY.

Pallbearers will be Neal Broadus, Dana Anglin, Bobby Chrisman, Tim Chrisman, Jeff Abrams, and Matt Phillips.

Gary William Dillon, age 60, passed away Monday April 22, 2018 at UK Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. He was born March 3, 1958 in Kings Lynn Norfolk, England to John J. and Margaret M. Dougan Dillon.

Gary was a very generous man, loved children as they loved him, a Loyal friend and devoted son. Gary was an avid Harley rider, loved Nascar and was a good friend of Bill W.

Other than his parents Gary is survived by a brother, James Dillon, sister Marion McKeegan and her husband Lanny, his Loving Companion of 22 years Betty Sarafin, two nephews’, Andrew Dillon, Jonathan McKeegan, one niece, Aileen McKeegan, one great niece, Ava Dillon, and one aunt, Ana Rohall.

Public Viewing will be 4:00pm-9:00pm Tuesday April 24, 2018 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Herrick Compassionate Funeral Service in Imperial PA. Burial will be in the St. Columbkille Cemetery in Imperial Pa.

Leigh A. Jones (86) went home to be with the Lord on April 25th 2018. He was born on April 15, 1932 in Mankato, MN.

He started going “steady” with his wife to be (Pat) when they were sophomores in high school. They were married August 8, 1954 after he graduated from the University of Minnesota.

He is survived by his 5 children; Steven (Lisa), Jeff (Deena), Cindy Pippin (Dwayne), Vicki Robinson (Dmitri) and Karen Gabbard (Rodney). 13 grandchildren; Cory Jones, Dylan Jones (Jessica), Scott Jones, Tabetha Frost (Robert), Devyn Partin (Jacob), Evan Robinson (Stephanie), Ty Robinson (Danielle), Jay Robinson (Sarah), Kim Quiles (Adam), Lukas Gabbard, Griffin Gabbard, Dawson Gabbard and Jeremiah Pippin and 9 great grandchildren; Kinley Frost, Harlow Frost, Declan Frost, Wesley Partin, Gavin Partin, Ethan Robinson, Mikah Robinson, Malachi Robinson and Evelyn Rose Robinson.

Leigh moved his family to Berea in 1964 when he accepted a position as Controller at Berea College. After working there for 32 years, he retired in 1996 as Vice President of Business and Finance.

Leigh lived a very full and active life which included many trips to Hilton Head Island with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing tennis, racquetball and snow skiing. He was a man of strong faith and a member at Berea Baptist Church for 20 years. While a member there, he served on the Financial Committee and volunteered in the Food Closet.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. Davis & Powell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert Douglas Morgan

Robert Douglas Morgan

Robert Douglas Morgan, age 63, died Wednesday April 25, 2018 at Baptist Health in Lexington. Mr. Morgan was born January 03, 1955 in Richmond, KY to the late George and Laura Mae Smith Morgan.

He had worked as a firefighter for the city of Richmond and in the dietary department of Saint Joseph-East in Lexington. He was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother; Marcellus Smith.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his long-time companion, Mattie Chadwell, his children; Robyn Embry of Louisville, KY Dorlinda (Shonie) Brotherton of Lexington, KY Tanya (Shaun) Chadwell of Nicholasville, KY, and Jonathan (Brooke) Williams of Indiana. Brothers, George (Lola) Morgan, Jr., and Spencer Morgan both of Richmond, KY. Thirteen grandchildren, Jaelyn Embry, Kegan Roark, Jaxon Roark, David Cawby, Jonathan Cawby, ‘Demetrice Brown, Jo-Nathan Williams, Jordan Brotherton, Taylor Brotherton, Jameka Campbell, Izabella Chadwell, Aliya Chadwell and Ariana Williams. Three nephews, Daryl Morgan, Aaron Morgan, and George Morgan, III. Two nieces, Jasmin Morgan and Lauren Morgan and one great nephew, Aaron Morgan, Jr. A host of family and friends also survive.

Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 01, 2018 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service. Internment will be in the Chadwell-Smith Cemetery on Cedar Cliff Road.

Rachel Gabbard Richmond 91, of Berea, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at home. She was a Berea native born June 14, 1927, daughter of the late Harm, Jr. and Rosie Ingram Gabbard.

Rachel was a homemaker, a loving wife to her husband Marion, a kind, generous, quiet woman filled with love for her entire family and friends, and known for her world class biscuits and soup beans. She attended Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Survivors include 3 children; Irene Richmond, Bobby Richmond (Bonnie) and David Richmond; 9 grandchildren, Keith, Rhonda, Ronald, Robbie, Donald, Kenny, Billy, Stacey, Craig; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Elsie Knuckles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marion Richmond; siblings, Preston Gabbard, Ernest Gabbard, Goldie Johnson, Evi Fryer and Lois Short; and a granddaughter, Kelly Richmond.

Pallbearers will be Robbie, Ronald, Kenny, Stacy, Billy, Donald and Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Keith, Ricky, Cecil, Charles and Johnnie.

Funeral service 1:00 PM, Friday, April 27th, 2018 also at Reppert Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Pastor Roy Himes officiating. Burial in Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation is 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Funeral Home.

Rosalie Keathley Adkins, 77, of Richmond, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Kenwood Health & Rehabilitation. Born, December 30, 1940, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Martha Marie (Allen) Keathley, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the widow of Dewey L. Adkins. Rosalie was a homemaker.

Survivors include her children, Alisa Adkins, Teresa Baisden (Richard), Suzanne Adkins (Ricardo), and Martha Gabbard (James) and Dewey Lee Adkins, Jr. (Brandy); 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Phyllis Layne, Glenna Kruse, Gerry Sue Hone (John), Larry Keathley (Darlene), Gary Keathley (Renee’) and Daisy Keathley, as well as, several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Palmer Keathley (husband of Helen), Yvette Trimble (wife of Don), and Jimmy Joe Keathley.

Visitation for Rosalie will be from 5 – 7 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2018, followed by a family eulogy at 7:00 PM at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Ashley Brooke Barnett, 31, of Louisville, formerly of Richmond, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at her home. Born August 20, 1986, in Richmond, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Michele (Bruther) Shannon and the late Stanley H. Barnett.

Ashley was a 2005 graduate of Madison Central High School and had studied at Western Kentucky University. She was employed by Induction Therapies, LLC of Louisville and attended Southeast Christian Church.

In addition to her mother, Michele Shannon and step father, Rick, of Hanover, Indiana, she is survived by one brother, Brandon H. Barnett of Louisville; one niece, Carley M. Barnett and her paternal grandmother, Evelyn Barnett.

Visitation for Brooke will be from 2 – 7 PM Wednesday with a service following at 7:30 PM, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Virgil Grant officiating.

Lela M. (Lisle) Cunningham, 97, of Richmond, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at her home. Born September 2, 1920, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie M. and Julia (Ballew) Lisle and the widow of Oliver W. Cunningham.

Mrs. Cunningham was a homemaker and a former food service employee of Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Francis Street, and of the Concord Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Greene-Baker of Richmond and her son, Morris E. Cunningham (Barbara) of Federal Way, Washington; her grandchildren, Mark Greene, Sr. (LaShone), Juaacklyn Cunningham, Shana Cunningham, Dionne Vester, Sharon Brown, Yolanda Dewberry, and Trinity Robinson; her great-grandchildren, Shon-Maree Flynn, Queante’ Flynn, Mark Greene II, Aurel Greene, Kahlan Greene, Jacob Greene, and Xavier Vester.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Trooper Clinton E. Cunningham; great-granddaughter, Tiara Lee; one sister, Ethel Lisle and two brothers, Charles and George Lisle.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mrs. Cunningham will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, May 4, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Blythe officiating. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.

Edward Anthony Gash, 64, of Richmond, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at home. Born October 21, 1953, in Mason County, Kentucky, he was the son of Stanley B. and Elizabeth Rita (Barry) Gash, both of whom preceded him in death.

Ed was a retired butcher for Sam’s Club and had worked for many years for Ryan’s Steakhouse in Middletown, Ohio. He was a member of the Richmond Church of Christ. He was cherished by his family and will be remembered as one of the most selfless humans ever created.

Survivors include four sisters, Anita Feiler of Florence, KY, Maria Corey (Reid) and Rosita Pennington (Ben), both of Richmond, KY and Patricia Gash of Dalton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, very special family friends, Kevin & Sheryl May, and a host of church friends.

Funeral services for Ed will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Richmond Church of Christ on Lancaster Road, with Bro. Mike Johnson and Bro. Jack Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Monday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Reid Corey III, Ben Pennington, Eddie Alexander, Jacob Sand, Alex Sand, and Brad Sand. Honorary bearers will be Reid Corey, Jr., Elders Ron Murray, Joe Koger, Danny Hunt, and Bret Oakes, James Trout, and Jay Feiler.

Mrs. Janice Mae Smith, 89, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Smith, the daughter of the late Grant Smith and Hettie Ison Smith, was born in Letcher County on January 7, 1929.

She retired as a Teacher from the Letcher County Board of Education. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and reading. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was a member of White Hall Baptist Church. On April 24, 1949, Mrs. Smith united in marriage to Hassel Smith who preceded her in death on September 13, 1999.

Survivors include: her son: Scotty H. Smith and wife Terri of Drakesboro, KY; her daughter: Marsha Freeman of Richmond; one brother: Vernon Smith and wife Juanita; two sisters: Norma Jean Roark and Jaqueline Gwin; three grandchildren: Kevin Smith and wife Crystal, Shannon Jackson and husband Clint and Mia Cornett; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by three sisters: Ruddell Fields, Velma Fields Sparkman and Eunice Kendrick and one grandson: Jonathon Cornett.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Beard and Vivian Niece officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. Sunday. Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Richmond Cemetery.

Mr. James Shirley Fish age 82, of Mt.Vernon, passed away Wednesday April 25, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was born on August 7, 1935 in Wildie, Ky. the son of the late Charlie and Bessie Townsend Fish.

He was a retired cabinet maker, a U.S. Army Veteran, enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, gardening, and was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are: two sons; Tim & Angela Fish of Finchville, Ky, and Jan & Kathy Fish of Waynesburg, Ky. One daughter; Sherry & David Green of Panama City, Fl. Four sisters; Mildred Rigsby & Pauline Russell both of Richmond, Ind., Norma Dunham of Renfro Valley, and Fern Abney of Berea. Seven grandchildren, and one special nephew; Brent Jones of London, Ky. also survives.

Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by: one brother; Charles Fish, and by three sisters; Avis Jordan, Julia T. Clark, and June Lawrence.

Arrangements are by the Cox Funeral Home where friends may visit from 12 to 2 PM on Saturday.

Chief Running Elk (William T. Coffman), 68, of Stanford, KY, a descended Cherokee Native, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at home. Born August 24, 1949 in Indian Creek, Casey County, KY to the late John Coffman and Madey Ethel Downs, and he was raised by his late step-father, William “Willie” Coffman.

He worked as a carpenter for most of his life and enjoyed taxidermy for over 28 years. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, was active in Native American events, and was a member of Eagle Feathers Club.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary A. Coffman; his children, Kathy Coffman of Stanford, KY, Joe Clements of Berea, KY, and Angela Hart (Kevin) of Burgin, KY; two brothers, Jeff Coffman and Tim Coffman both of Liberty, KY; four sisters, Lilian Martin, Regenna Ray, Betty Hill, and Flossie Johnson; three grandchildren, Brittney Clements, Kennith Clements, and Tish Mosier; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and stepdad, he was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters.

A one day service has been scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Visitation will be from 5-8pm with funeral service beginning at 8pm. A graveside service will be held at Buffalo Springs Cemetery on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11am.

James Earl Muncy Sr.

James Earl Muncy Sr., age 62, of Kirkland Avenue in Irvine, passed away Saturday, April 21st, at the Baptist Health Lexington Hospital following a long illness. He was born May 2, 1955, in Madison County, a son of the late Bobby Gene Sr. and Annabell Marcum Muncy.

He was a pool installer with Baker Pool Supply and had lived in Estill County all his life. He was a Veteran of the National Guard.

He is survived by 2 Sons Joseph E. Muncy (Mary), James Earl Muncy Jr (Dasha), A Brother Bobby Gene Muncy Jr. (Pat) all of Estill Co., 1 Grandchild James Earl Muncy III and A Nephew Chad Muncy.

He was preceded in death by a Brother, Michael Glen Muncy.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 11 AM at the Grey Cemetery by Bro. Scott Rogers.

Pallbearers are Gary Boyken, Bobby Muncy, Chad Muncy, Joseph Muncy, James Muncy Jr., Dale Baker.

Cathy Jean Isaacs, age 60, of Greathouse Road in Richmond, passed away Sunday, April 22nd, at the Compassionate Care Center, following a long illness. She was born November 13, 1957, in Estill County, a daughter of Happy Isaacs and Frances Rose Caldwell.

She is survived by Her Mother Frances Rose Caldwell, 1 Daughter Tonya Beard (Chad) of Estill Co. A Grandchild: Addison Beard, 1 Nephew Dwight Durbin (Jennifer), 2 Great Nephews Carter and Mason Durbin.

She was preceded in death by her Step-Father: Kenneth Caldwell Sr., 1 Sister: Sharon Durbin, and a Brother: Kenneth Caldwell Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 6 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jason Brooks with burial to follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call between 3 and 6 PM Wednesday.

Lewis Gene Gay, better known as Sonny, was born June 6, 1943 in Jackson County and departed this life Thursday, April 26, 2018 at his residence, being 74 years of age. He was the son of the late Vee Gay & Nola (Davis) Gay.

Sonny is survived by his son, Kevin Gay of Richmond and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Wyrick) Gay; by his brother, William F. Gay, better known as Bill and by his sister, Judith Gay Wilson.
Sonny was a Mason, a huge UK fan and an avid golfer.

Jean Johnson

Jean Johnson was born January 13, 1936 in Jackson County and departed this life Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Madison Health & Rehab in Richmond, being 82 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Pearl & Gladys (Moore) Hacker.

Jean is survived by six children, Frankie Cunigan Jr., Della Marcum and Sarah King all of Tyner, Teresa Gray of Annville, Mary Ann Collett and Ora Smith both of Gray Hawk. She is also survived by two siblings, Freddy Ray Hacker of McKee and Sally Fields of Annville.

In addition to her parents, Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Johnson and by three siblings, Jerry Lee Hacker, Kenny Pearl Hacker and Emma Sue Hacker.
Jean was a member of the Three Links Christian Church.

Graveside service 2:00 PM Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Johnson Family Cemetery in Estill County with Bro. Jack Martin officiating. Lakes Funeral Home McKee was in charge of arrangements.
