Madison Co. Sheriff’s Office Investigates Injury Collision on I-75

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating an injury collision that occurred on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 around 4:20 a.m. on Interstate 75 in Madison County.

According to Madison County Sheriff Mike Coyle, a Volvo semi-tractor and trailer driven by Farhan Barkatle Mohamed, 31, North Logan UT was driving north bound around mile marker 85 when the vehicle began to slide on the icy roadway. The semi struck a rock wall and came to rest with the trailer blocking northbound lanes of travel. Mohamed and his passenger Abdinasir Abdirahman, 28, Eagan MN were treated and released from Baptist Health Richmond for minor injuries.

Najem S Al-Tararwah, 43, of Berea was driving north northbound in a 2007 Chevrolet truck when he collided with the trailer of the semi. Al-Tararwah was partially ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with serious injuries.

A third vehicle driven by Nicholas Tauzell, 21, of Superior WI was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Cobalt. Tauzell attempted to stop to avoid the collision and slid on the icy roadway. The Chevrolet Cobalt struck a rock wall, but avoided a collision with the other two vehicles. No injuries were reported to Nicholas Tauzell.

The collision is being investigation by Deputy Stacey Cummins. He was assisted on the scene by Madison County EMS, Madison County Fire Department, and Madison County Rescue Squad, and Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
