Madison Co. Sheriff’s Report Feb. 12, 2018

Animal Neglect: On Monday, February 12, 2018 around 9:00 a.m., The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of animal neglect on Kentucky River Road in Madison County. This was the same complaint which was being circulated through social media.

Deputy Donovan Nolan and Deputy Todd Chitwood responded to the complaint and spoke with the horse owner. Upon investigation, Deputies determined one of the horses had died as a result of a possible gunshot believed to have been caused by a hunter during deer season. The second horse is suffering from cancer. Madison County Sheriff’s Office was able to verify through the horse owners veterinarian. Deputy Nolan and Deputy Chitwood along with Madison County Animal Control observed 35 additional horses on the farm. The horses were in good health and had adequate feed and shelter.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County Animal Control has determined the case of animal neglect by this horse owner is unsubstantiated.
