Edna Dalton Oliver
Edna Dalton Oliver, 103, the widow of Mitchell Oliver, passed away Monday evening, February 26, 2018, at her home in Richmond. Mrs. Oliver was born on March 3, 1914, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Boyd Sr. and Katie Benton Dalton.
She was a graduate of Model Laboratory School and Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College and was a retired school teacher, librarian, and principal. She began her teaching career first at Siloam, a two-room school at Cuzick. Next, she was a Teacher and Principal at Red House School, eventually retiring as Librarian at Daniel Boone Elementary School, at a career that spanned almost fifty years. She was a member of the Madison County, Kentucky and the National Retired Teachers Associations, and had also served as Vice-President of the EKU Alumni Association.
She was a dedicated member of The Red House Baptist Church. There she had taught Sunday school for 50 years and been able to share her love and kindness to many generations of churchgoers.
Survivors include her daughter: Vivian Madden; one brother: Boyd Dalton, Jr.; her daughter-in-law: Cheryl Oliver; a blended family of nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and twenty-nine great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son: Mitchell Oliver Jr., her son-in-law: Hugh Madden; great-grandson: John Madden; three brothers: Delmer “Ace” Dalton, Eugene “Slick” Dalton and Arnold Dalton; three sisters: Myrtle Tribble, Blanche Masters and Margaret McClure.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 2, 2018, at The Red House Baptist Church, 2301 Red House Road, Richmond, with Dr. Deron Cobb and Rev. Porter Riner officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Thursday evening at the church. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers are Doug Golden, Dwayne Oliver, Steve Madden, Gil Miller, Johnathon Grant, Kyle “Spud” Sowers and Russ Tracy. Honorary Pallbearers are Gregory Grant-Grandchild, Kathy Golden-Grandchild, Cheryl Lee Renfro-Grandchild, Kaitlynn and Kristina Golden-great-great-grandchildren, Lewis Curry, Don Richardson, Garnett Parke, Beulah Goode, Vickie White, Sandy Dalton, Kat Sandlin, Kathryn Masters, Sharon Meadors, Elizabeth Osborne, Audrey Tracy, Sharon Bryant, Mary Hall and Sue Riner.
