Family Caregiver Workshop

This program is specialized for family caregivers and will offer information about Alzheimer’s disease and care giving and will also provide an opportunity to reflect, regenerate, and gain a new perspective on your caregiving issues. Local and statewide experts who specialize in aging and Alzheimer’s care will present topics that are valuable to family caregivers of persons with dementia. This training is designed specifically for family caregivers and is therefore not open to those who are professional caregivers. Jointly sponsored by the UK Sanders Brown Center on Aging, Baptist Health Medical Group Neurology, Bluegrass Area Agency on Aging, and the Alzheimer’s Association. We will have a special guest from the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office to talk about Scams.

Coping with Difficult Behaviors in Dementia: Strategies You Can Use Today

When a person with dementia experiences agitation, the resulting behaviors can be difficult to manage. While medications can provide benefits, there are effective non-pharmacological strategies that can be employed. Geriatrician Margaret Baumann, M.D., will show us how making simple changes in how we relate to a person with dementia can make a world of difference in mitigating difficult behaviors.
