Marjorie A. Shelton
Marjorie A. Shelton, 67, Princeton Road, died at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes. A native of Christian County, she was born April 20, 1950, the Daughter of the late Thurman and Flora Bell Spurlin Woosley.
She was a secretary at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and worked at Walmart. She was a member of Sinking Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Carlos Shelton (formerly of Berea, KY); her daughter, Mikki Shelton (Galen) Goodman, Wenatchee, Washington; her brother, Herman Rippie, Crofton; her sister Carol (Woosley) Gibson, Hopkinsville; and one grandson Brice Goodman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lamb Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, KY with the Rev. Mike Humphries officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Shane McKinney age 46, son of Buddy and Wathena McKinney, died Thursday Jan. 25, 2018 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Shane was a EKU graduate, a member of Kentucky Crafts, a weaver and artist. He was an employee of UK Medicine as a Pharmacy Technician.
Shane was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents: Roy Lee and Edith McKinney and maternal grandparents: Norma and Fred Smyth, his aunts: Ruth McKinney, Eva Marie McKinney, Virginia (MA) Slusher, Mildred (Ralph) Mayne, and Mable McKinney, his uncles: Thomas McKinney, Mac McKinney, James McKinney, Harlow (Ann) McKinney.
Shane is survived by his parents Charles ‘Buddy’ and Wathena Smyth McKinney, his Aunt Elwanda Allen, uncles Lyndon Smyth, and Elwood (Reva) Smyth, and his first cousins: Ratonya Allen, Dedra Chaney, Heather Howser, Shannon Smyth, Robin Smyth, Joyce Slusher, Gordon (Judy) Slusher, Louise (Rob) Grinnell, Connie (Paul) Newman, Sherri (Bill) Miller, Dawn and Mike Demayo, Jay Mayne, Mike McKinney, Joel (Sandra) McKinney, and special cousin Kevin Slusher.
Funeral services will be Jan. 29, 2018 at 2 pm at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will be in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 pm at the funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Martin Ramsey, Lee Roberson, Kevin Slusher, James Leach, Lewis Sparks, Mike McKinney and Joel McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Ramsey, Maggie Ciolek, Karen Gleason, Leslye Leonard, Nancy Leach, Connie Roberson, Betty Ballard, and Bethal Lee Parker.
Ricky Lynn Saylor
Ricky Lynn Saylor, age 47, died Saturday January 20, 2018 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Ky. Ricky was born October 1, 1970 in Richmond, Ky., to the late Silas and Helen Powell Saylor. Ricky was of the Baptist Faith.
Ricky is survived by one daughter, Ashley Anglin of Berea, Ky., one brother, Timothy Saylor and his wife Diane of Berea, Ky., four sisters, Brenda Dixon of Versailles, Ky., Rhonda Herndez of Richmond, Ky., Lora Gadd of Berea, Ky., Jeannie Wren and her husband Mike of Broadhead, Ky., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday January 25, 2018 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Vester Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the Legear Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation will be 11:00am until service time at the funeral home.
Verna Rucker Burnell, 86, of Wilson Lane, passed away January 24, 2018 at her home. She was born in the Red Lick area of Madison County, Kentucky, to the late Willie and Carey Hisel Rucker.
She had been a framer at Teresa’s Antiques and had owned and operated Burnell Grain and Building Company with her husband for over 30 years.
She was a member of the Pilot Knob Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by two children, Barry Burnell and Carrie Sanders; and two sisters, Thelma Clemmons and Alene Goodrich.
Verna is survived by her husband of over 68 years, Anthony W. Burnell; one son, Roger Burnell; several caregivers: Loretta Powell, Haley Litten, Beverly Bray, Vickie Spivey, and Connie Rose; and a special friend, Angie Chasteen.
Funeral services for Verna Rucker Burnell will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2018, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Lola May Jane Bullock Laswell, age 84 of Berea, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at The Terrace in Berea. Lola was born in Orlando, Kentucky to the late Lloyd Russel and Evenus Bullock.
She lived her later years in Madison County and her last remaining years with Alzheimer’s in the Terrace Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Berea.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William David Laswell, one infant son Dwight Laswell, he was the stillborn twin to David; two sisters, Laura Bullock McIntosh, and Mary Madge Bullock Russell; four brothers, Lincoln Bullock, David Stormie Bullock, Jerry Bullock, and Arnold Bullock; and three grandchildren, Angel, Tristian, and Ryland.
She is survived by her five children, David (Tracy) Lee Laswell, Shayla (Dennis) Brown, Sherrie Laswell, Mark (Betty) Laswell, and Misty (Jason) Brooks; 12 grandchildren, Starr Lawson, Chris Brown, Ashley Sparks, Brandie York, Donald Brown, Vincent Lawson, David Laswell, Joshua Laswell, Lisa Willis, Hunter Laswell, Klayton Brooks, and Christian Brooks; 18 great grandchildren, Rochelle, Samantha, Courtney, Thales, Ava, Landon, Channing, Breylan, Eli, Kyra, Colton, Emily, Emma, Josh, Jordan, Tom, Taylor, and Hadden; two sisters, Ann Cass and Betty Cotton, and three brothers Roscoe Bullock, Lee Bullock, and Russy Bullock.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Flat Rock Baptist Church in Orlando, Kentucky with Bro. Charles Larry Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bullock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12pm until time of services.
Arthur Samuel Ricketts
Arthur Samuel Ricketts, 91, of Berea, died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by family following a short illness. Born October 6, 1926 in Dansville, New York, he is the son of the late Minnie Holden and Glenn B. Ricketts.
A U.S. Navy Veteran, a Masters graduate of the University of Rochester, the Eastman School of Music, a trombone player for the Oklahoma City Orchestra and a Librarian in Louisville KY, Pasadena CA, Los Alamos NM, Lansing MI, Syracuse NY and Flint MI. He and wife Martina were members of the American Ornithological Society (AOS) and held distinction for their achievements in bird watching worldwide, and attended the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Madison County.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years Martina Myers Ricketts; daughters, Robin Powell (Alex) and Margaret Ricketts; grandchildren, Kyle, Kiaya and Kaleb Powell and his canine companions Grady and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jean Snyder and grandchild Christine Powell.

Jean Sharon Green
Jean Sharon Farthing Green, 63, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Richmond Place in Lexington. Born March 23, 1954, in Richmond, she was the daughter of Herman and Dovie Imogene Cole Farthing, both of whom preceded her in death.
Jean was a former Wal-Mart employee and was a gifted seamstress. She attended the Richmond House of Prayer.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Renee Muncy and Alicia Beth Kidd; brothers, Charles Farthing, Gary Farthing (Connie), Randall Farthing (Mary), and David Farthing (Charlotte); sisters, Brenda Parke (Garnett), Joan Charles (Ray), and Faye Logsdon; grandchildren, Molly Kristine Watts, Emma Katherine Muncy, and Noah Carter Kidd; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Ann Farthing and six brothers, Kenneth Farthing, Arnold “O’Neal” Farthing, Leon Farthing, James “Tillman” Farthing, Manuel Farthing and Larry Farthing.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
Pallbearers will be Robert Farthing, Marcus Farthing, Larry Michael Farthing, Eric Ballard, Charles “Chuck” Farthing, and James Mitchell Farthing. Honorary bearers will be Timothy Parke and Justin Gallaher.

Connie Faye Crawley
Connie Faye Marshall Crawley, 56, of Richmond, the wife of Warfield Crawley Jr, .passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Baptist Health of Richmond. She was born November 7, 1961 in Madison County to the late Joseph and Margaret Phyllis Perkins Marshall.
She was a food service manager for several years, she loved to cook and was a member of John F. Marshall Holiness Church.
Other than her husband Warfield, she is survived by two sons Patrick LaDale Crawley, and Bille Joe (Edna Nicole) Crawley, both of Richmond, two sisters Penny Jo Williamson of Niota, TN, Sally (Tommy) Davis of Richmond, four grandchildren Austin Crawley, Kaleb Crawley, Maddi Crawley, and Braden Crawley, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Marsha Jane White.
Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Tuesday January 30, 2018 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Marvin Marshall and Calvin Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Monday January 29, 2018 at the Funeral Home.
Alphie Gross Tipton, 91, of Boone Drive in Richmond, and formerly of Estill County, died Monday, January 22, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Hospice Care. She was born on September 13, 1926 in Estill County, and was the daughter of the late Sam and Gracie Crawford Gross.
Mrs. Tipton was a homemaker and seamstress. She loved to cook, garden, and work in her flowers. She was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Eugene Tipton, who died in 2010, as well as six brothers, Finley Gross, Dosh Gross, Ralph “Doeg” Gross, Durb “Earville” Gross, Clyde Gross, and Bill Gross, and five sisters, Nettie Wilburn, Mary Townsend, Stella Townsend, Margie Marshall, and Jean Powell.
Survivors include: one son, Donnie Tipton (Nora), of Willisburg, KY; one daughter, Phyllis Burton (Rodney), of Richmond; four grandchildren, Kimberly Clemenson Webster (Jeff), of Carmel Valley, CA, Bryan Tipton (Melissa), of Nicholasville, Tracy Rhodus, of Richmond, and David Burton (Trina), of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Haylee King, Madisyn Hurst, and Caleb Stone, all of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the funeral home.

William W. Peacock Jr.
William W. Peacock Jr. 92, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Terrace in Berea. Born November 28, 1925, in Georgia, he was the son of William Wallace and Mary F. Bowlin Peacock, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mr. Peacock was a home builder and was of the Methodist faith. He had served his country in the U S Army.
Survivors include one son, Mark Peacock of Richmond and three daughters, Emily Haddock, Elizabeth Scruggs, and Tina Stauber.
Memorial services will be held later.
Billy Price Ray
Billy Price Ray, 54, of Richmond, who was a Richmond native born on March 26, 1963, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
Survivors include his mother, Wanda Harvey Ray; a daughter, Jean Nicole Ray; one brother, Billy Lee Ray (Holly); two sisters, Judy Collins (Mike) and Cathy Conner; several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Morris “Bill” Ray, Jr.; a sister, Debbie Singer; two brothers, Dillard Ray and Arnie Ray; his maternal grandparents, Harold Price & B. Harvey; and his paternal grandparents, Morris & Mona Ray.
Private funeral services will be held.
Delores Irene Barron
Mrs. Delores Irene Barron, 87 of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday January 25, 2018 at the Kenwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. She was born in Madison County, KY on May 31, 1930 the daughter of Andy and Annie Skinner Abney.
She was a retired caregiver who loved to cook and visit Goodwill and yard sales. She enjoyed listening to country and bluegrass music as well.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Barron; her children, Robert and Janet Abner, Oscar and Rhonda Abner, and Andy Abner, all of Richmond, IN, Steve and Julie Lakes of Florence, Jimmy Abner of Richmond, and Mary Ann and James Eversole of Hagerstown, IN; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Abner of Richmond, IN; two step-sons, Anthony Barron of Mt. Vernon, and Jeffery Barron of Lexington; and two step-daughters, Rhonda Barron of Winchester, and Judy Barron of Eubank. 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, two daughters, a brother, and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM on January 29, 2018 at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home. Funeral starts at 2:00 PM.
Evonda Carol Northern
Mrs. Evonda Carol Northern, age 66 of Orlando, Ky. passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the Rockcastle Hospital. She was born on November 29, 1951 in Berea, Ky., a daughter of the late Rovie Lee Ball and Ardella Ball Thompson.
Evonda had been an assistant Postmaster for 17 years. She was a 15 year member of Crossroads Assembly of God Church, and found great enjoyment in Bluegrass festivals and her children. On April 20, 1968 she was united in holy matrimony to Jerry Northern, and from that union came two children: Stephanie and Brian.
Those left to celebrate her life are: her husband of 49 years, Jerry Northern of Orlando, Ky; her daughter: Stephanie Northern of Berea, Ky; her sisters: Rhonda (Ronnie) Stevens of Brodhead, Ky; and Donna Zehr of Berea, Ky; nieces: Pam (Darwin) McGuire; Jessica Collins, Angela (Steve) Miller; nephews: Anthony (Amanda) Owens, Chris (Terra) Collins; and Eric Zehr. Special great niece: Kendra Kelley. As well as a host of friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Brian Northern and an infant brother, Harold Denver Ball.
Funeral Services for Evonda will be held at 3PM on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at the Crossroads Assembly of God with Bro. Steve Vanhook officiating. Burial will follow in Briarfield Cemetery. Family will receive friends and family at the church on Thursday from 11AM until the funeral hour.
Gary Alvin Wilson
Mr. Gary Alvin Wilson, age 65, husband of Paulette of Brodhead, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 21st, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Gary was born in Berea, Kentucky on January13th, 1953, a son of the late Omer Alvin Wilson and Rose Mary Bishop Wilson.
He was a member of the Community Church of God in Crab Orchard, KY; he enjoyed family, motorcycles, horseback riding and loved water.
Those left to celebrate his life are: his wife: Paulette Chumbley Wilson of Brodhead, KY whom he married on December 21st, 1970 and from that union came three daughters: Michelle Burris (Bobby) of Richmond, KY; Tajuana Lane (Robert) of Brodhead, KY; Gari Sue Thacker (Shawn) of Brodhead, KY; seven grandchildren: Tyler Burris (Candice), Trevor Burris, Travis Lane, Stacey Lane, Hayden Thacker, Haley Thacker, Callie Thacker. One brother: Kenneth “Dooney” Stevens (Mary Lynn) of Louisville, KY; two sisters: Sue Halcomb (Eugene) of Brodhead, KY; Connie Moore of Brodhead, KY; several nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors.

Patricia Louise Henry
Patricia Louise Henry, age 69, of South Hudson Avenue in Irvine passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the Baptist Health in Lexington following a long illness. She was born May 4, 1948 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Jake and Lillie Neal Wiseman.
She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County all her life.
She is survived by 2 Daughters Sondra Stallings & husband, Michael of Estill Co., Kristy Henry & husband, Benny of Arkansas, 2 Sons James Snowden & husband, Randy, Zachary Henry & wife, Emma both of Lexington, 2 Sisters Norma Hall of Madison Co., Margie Cahal of Estill Co., 2 Brothers J. B. Wiseman of Estill Co., Donald Wiseman of Madison Co., 4 Grandchildren Emma Carson Turpin, Lennon Abney, Corey LeMaster and Tyler LeMaster and 1 Great Grandchild Brennon Willis.
She was preceded in death by 1 son, Jeremiah Henry and 1 sister, Betty Tipton.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 25, 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Scott Rogers. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
