Bette Jane Combs
Bette Jane Usher Combs, age 90, widow of Elvin Combs, died Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. A native of Buffalo, New York she was born to the late Ernest Lloyd and Edith Henderson Usher.
She retired from the Human Resources Department with the State of Kentucky, was a member of the Richmond Church of Christ. Mrs. Combs loved spending time with her family and was loved by all who knew her.
Other than her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Combs and two brothers, Robert, and Jack Usher both New York.
Mrs. Combs is survived by her children, John E. Combs of Richmond, KY., Larry (Dulce) Combs, Jane (Ray) Brandenburg both of Berea, KY., and Edie (Earl) McCreary of Rockwood, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tamara (Ben Hoffman) Deboard, Tina (Dale) Carter, E.T. McCreary, Emily Arp, Larinda (Andy) Agee, Eric (Savannah) Combs, Brian (Jennifer) Combs, Tracy Jane Combs, and Juliana Pinto. 15 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Hall and Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Combs Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-9 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be, Eric Combs, Brian Combs, Harold Combs, Tyler McCreary, Brian Hall Ben Hoffman, and Russell Hehemann. James Everett Lamb
James Everett Lamb, age 92, passed away Friday July 14, 2017 at Berea Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Madison County he was born January 13, 1925 to the late Isom T. and Bessie Chasteen Lamb. A statement made known by James many times to family and friends was “He was a Doctor, Lawyer, Merchant, Chief, A Jack of all Trades, and good at none. James was of the holiness faith.
James is survived by seven children, Larry Eugene Lamb of Berea, Calvin Douglas Lamb of Berea, Paul David Lamb of Berea, Leroy Everett Lamb of Berea, Brenda Kay Miles of Alabama, Barbara Ellen Lamb of Alabama, Isom Wayne Lamb of Berea and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Other than his parents James was preceded in death by his wife Ida Mae Lamb, three children, David Lloyd Lamb, Jimmy Lamb, Ernie Lee Lamb, three sisters, Lillie Mae Wallace, Barbara Hale, and Catherine Turner.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Crestview Holy Sanctuary with Bro. James Miles officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9pm Monday July 17, 2017 at the church. Davis & Powell Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Inez Moore, 70, of Berea, KY, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family on July 9, 2017. She lived a long and joyous life where she enjoyed working as a beautician for 32 years. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her three grandsons. Inez loved to cook for a crowd, and as the oldest of nine children was always host to family events. She was a member of White Lick Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Carroll and three sisters, Kathy Zoldak, Judy Patton and Shirl Powell.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Moore of 48 years, two loving daughters, Stephanie (Russell) McMahan and Lisa (Dameon) Adams, her grandchildren Lukas Owens, Landon and Camden Adams, Taylor Powell and Ally McMahan, brothers Albert (Rosie) Carroll and Jimmy (Susie) Carroll and sisters Peggy Carroll, Jeanette Raef and Mary Lou Chisholm and her closest friends, Daphne (Dexter) Turner and Lorna (Scott) Crane. She was blessed with many extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 12 at 2:00pm at White Lick Baptist Church, 5606 Cartersville Road, Berea, KY 40403, with Rev. Greg Lakes and Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors on Tuesday, July 11 from 6-8:30pm at White Lick Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Scott Taulbee, Tony Taulbee, Houston Raef, Stephen Zoldak, Chris Carroll, Alex Chisholm, Mitchell Carroll, and Paul Turner.

Donnie Samuel Cornett
Donnie Samuel Cornett, age 73, of Climax Road in McKee, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Donnie was born in Madison County to the late Samuel Harrison and Verga Alice Thomas Cornett.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family. He was still an active farmer and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Garrett Cornett, two sons Harrison Scott (Lisa) Cornett and Chad Everett (Carolyn) Cornett; two sisters Hazel (Drew) Garrett and Merritta Ann (Lee) Johnson; four grandchildren, Jacklynn Brooke (Ryan) Richardson, Clayton Riley Cornett, Coleston Charles Cornett, and Carson Samuel Cornett; one great granddaughter Adalynn Marie Richardson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1pm, Friday, July 14, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Cornett Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-9 pm at the funeral home.

Sissie Ann Hounshell
Sissie Ann Himes Hounshell, age 83, widow of Thomas Edgar “Tommy” Hounshell, died Sunday, July 9th, 2017 at Baptist health Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Hounshell was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on September 2nd, 1933.
Mrs. Hounshell was a member of the Cartersville Holiness church and was a member of the Women’s industrial at Union Church in Berea. Mrs. Hounshell loved to quilt, she loved to cook for her family. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.
Other than her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one daughter Naomi Hounshell. Six brothers and one sister also preceded her; William Stanley, John, Harold, Ronald, Ronald, Russell, and Robert Himes, and her sister Mildred Banks. Two grandchildren also preceded her.
Mrs. Hounshell is survived by her nine children. Mary (Charles) Smith of Berea, KY., James Luther (Juanita) Hounshell of Berea, KY., Roger (Betty) Hounshell of Cartersville, KY., Anita Hounshell of Berea, KY., Thomas Edward (Louise) Hounshell of Cartersville, KY., Glen Ray (Hope) Hounshell of Cartersville, KY., Michael David Hounshell of Berea, KY., Gary Lyn (Tami) Hounshell of Cartersville, KY., and Teresa (Wayne) Biggs of Richmond, KY.
She was also survived by two brothers and one sister; Roy (Kay) Himes of Berea, KY., Lewis (JoAnn) Himes of Junction City, KY., and Laura (Jerry) Lunsford of Berea, KY. 36 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 13th, 2017 at Cartersville Holiness Church. Bro. Bruce Alcorn, Bro. J.B. Alexander, Bro. Steve McCollum, and Bro. Roy Himes will be officiating. Tara Patriece Canada Smith, 44, of Richmond, died at her home. She was a Wilmington, Ohio native born July 20, 1972; daughter of Phyllis Chasteen Alexander and the late Jimmie Canada, Sr., a homemaker, loved doing auto body work, traveling, helping others and her family. Tara was a Christian of the Holiness Faith and had been a resident of Madison County most of her life.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by 2 daughters, Felicity Ingleston (Martin) and Samantha Smith; step-father Vernon Alexander; 5 siblings, Fonda Chasteen, Donna Johnson (Darryl Baker), Darlene Van Winkle (Jim Davidson), Anne Davis, and Jimmie Canada, Jr. (Carolyn); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Earl Douglas Bowlin
Earl Douglas Bowlin, 63, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Baptist Health – Richmond. Born June 14, 1954, in Richmond, Kentucky, he was the son of Earl Walker Bowlin and the late Betty Jean Smith Bowlin.
Doug was a custodian at Eastern Kentucky University and a member of College Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed music, sports and Nascar racing and all Native American artifacts.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dianne Hawkins Bowlin of Richmond, one daughter, Melissa Bowlin (Beau Abner), one grandson, Ethan Beau Abner; and one brother, Kevin Stuart Bowlin.
Funeral service for Doug will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, July 14, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Michele Ann Patterson Worsley, 47, died on Sunday, July 9, 2017 in Richmond, Kentucky.

Sylvester Wren Jr.
Mr. Sylvester Wren Jr. 62, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at his home. He was born in Madison County on May 14, 1955 to the late Sylvester, Sr., and Martha Collins Wren.
Mr. Wren was the owner and operator of Brickologist for over 35 years. He enjoyed fishing and was a very family oriented man.
Survivors include: two sons, Matt Wren (Lisa), Sylvester Wren III; one daughter, Amy Sebastian; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Johnny Napier, Billy Newcomb and Neville Watts; three sisters, Anita Peel, Lena Cross and Tina Lambdin; a very special sister-in-law, Janet Rollins; as well as a host of other family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Wren(d. 2015), and one son, Dillon Wren (d. 2007).
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., with Rev. Butch Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 11AM Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Syble Stephens Miller
Mrs. Syble Stephens Miller, 86, a long-time resident of Richmond, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Telford Terrace. Mrs. Miller was born in 1930 in Albertville, AL, the second daughter of the late Henry and Pauline Stephens and devoted sister of Mollie Ellen Anderton.
She graduated from Mercer University in 1953 and embarked on her life’s journey as wife, mother, educator, and community volunteer, with abundant energy and love for others. Early in her career she taught at Georgetown College and as a public elementary school teacher in Indiana and Georgia. Upon moving to Richmond she served 25 years as Education Coordinator with the Head Start Program of Kentucky River Foothills. Syble loved entertaining in her home but devoted much of her time to community service. She is a past President of EKU Women, Charter member of the Gladhatters Red Hat Club, Member of the Cecilian Music Club, Fireside Forum, and member of the Home Meals Delivery board where she served many years as president.
Syble was a devoted Christ follower, and spent much of her time serving at First Baptist Church in the nursery, youth and college ministries, as well as serving as preschool choir director for many years. She loved the fellowship of her BYKOTA Sunday School Class.
In addition to her sister, Mrs. Miller is survived by: her sons, Robert W. Miller, Old Town, FL, and J. Kirk Miller, Louisville, KY; daughters, Paula Miller (John) Pratt, Bloomington, IL, and Erika Miller (Kevin) Watkins, Valencia, CA; 10 nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson. Syble will long be remembered by her loving caregiver Carol Parks who loved, laughed and cared for her for five years as she resolutely met the challenges of dementia.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 425 EKU Bypass, with Rev. Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM the day of the funeral. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.

Noil Stewart Jr.
Mr. Noil Stewart Jr. 65, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Mr. Stewart was born in Madison County on July 18, 1951 to the late Noil Sr, and Altie Whittamore Stewart.
He was the owner and operator of Stewart Concrete Company. He was a kind hearted man that loved his family and enjoyed working and spending time outdoors.
He is survived by: his wife, Bonnie Fields; one son, Teddy Stewart; one daughter, Cassandra Stewart; three grandchildren, William Allen, Stephanie Allen, and Kayla Chesebro; five great-grandchildren, Caden, Maddie, Blaiklee, Landon and Sarah; two brothers, Vernon Stewart and Henry Stewart; his three dogs, Gracie, Marley, and Missy; as well as many other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Moss Stewart, and three sisters, Helen Murphy, Nannie Webb and Rosella Stewart.

Danny Ray Sebastian
Danny Ray Sebastian, 61, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his home. Danny, the son of Dennis Cain and Mary Sebastian Cain, was born in Ohio on September 14, 1955. He was a long time employee of John Denny Sod. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool.
Survivors include his father: Dennis Cain; two daughters: Amie Speakman and husband Freddie and Jamie Sebastian all of Richmond; his brother: Michael Cain and six grandchildren: Kaylee Speakman, Karlee Speakman, Thomas Speakman, Alexis Walton. Abby Walton and Alissa Peters.
Danny was preceded in death by his mother: Mary Sebastian and his grandparents: Brian O’Neil and Cleola B. Sebastian.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Friday, July 14, 2017 at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Randall Gene Elam
Randall Gene Elam, 60, passed away Wednesday, July 12th, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. Mr. Elam was a native of Ft. Thomas, KY, a son of the late Jack and Maxine Tarter Elam. Mr. Elam was preceded in death by his brother Daryl Elam.
Survivors include his siblings Gary (and wife Charlotte) Elam, Norma (and husband Conrad) Gabbard, Lana (and husband Wayne) Bailey, and Roger (and wife Glenda) Elam; his niece Angie Elam; his nephews Brian and Gary Elam, and Matthew and Jeremy Bailey; his great nephews Timothy Isaacs and Lucas Elam; his great niece Katie Bailey.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at the Crestview Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Chuck Elam, Pastor Harold Eades, and Pastor Luther Akers officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 pm until service time. Interment service will be held Monday, at Madison Memorial Gardens.

Joseph R. Denning
Joseph R. Denning, 42, of Madison County, was called to his heavenly home on July 11th, 2017. He was the son of Vinnie Chenault Denning and the late James P. Denning.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Antonio Turner Denning and Joseph K. Denning; two daughters, Vinnie and Victoria Denning; two grandchildren, Alexis Denning and Josiah; two sisters, Cassandra Johnson and Latonya Bell, both of Lexington; one brother, James Denning of Oklahoma;three aunts, Nancy, Dorothy and Debra; four uncles, John H, Lonnie, Clarence, and John C.; two stepbrothers and one stepsister; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by grandmothers, Ruby Pinkston and Ida Denning; grandfathers, Albert Chenault and Crenshaw Denning.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor William Hale officiating. Interment will follow on Monday, July 17 at 11AM at the Madison Memorial Gardens. Friends may call anytime after 12PM on Saturday.
Delbert Douglas Isaacs
Delbert Douglas Isaacs, age 46, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, July 11th, at the Baptist Health Lexington Hospital. He was born May 13, 1971, in Madison County, a son of Howard “Doug” and Linda Thomas Isaacs.
He was the owner of Isaacs Specialty Roofing Systems and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a devoted father, loving son, kind brother, and supportive uncle. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and his incredible work ethic. He was loved by many and will never be forgotten.
In addition to his parents, he is also survived by A Daughter Terra Isaacs, 1 Son Collin Isaacs, 2 Sisters Danisha Isaacs of Estill Co., Ciara Hagedorn (Brad) of Lexington, 1 Brother Levi Isaacs (Emmy) of Waco along with Many Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, and Uncles.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday 11:30 AM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call after 10 AM Saturday until service time.
Roger Wayne Riddell
Roger Wayne Riddell, age 62, of Pea Ridge Road, in Irvine, passed away Sunday, July 9th, at his home following a long illness. He was born December 9, 1954, in Estill County, a son of Cornell and Catherine Plowman Riddell.
He was a contractor with Woodford Excavation and Transport. He had lived in Estill County all of his life and was a member of the Pea Ridge Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, he is also survived by His Wife Delorice Sparks Riddell, 2 Sons Jeffery Lane Riddell and Aaron Phillip Riddell both of Irvine. 2 Sisters Dorothy Frances Chevalier of Somerset and Judy May Jones of Stanton. A Brother Denver Cornell Riddell of Berea and 5 Grandchildren Jeffery Lane Riddell II, Caitlyn Erin Rochelle Riddell, Joseph Dewayne Riddell, Carly Nicole Riddell and Sarah Delorice Riddell.
He was preceded in death by a Sister, Janice Lavonne Riddell.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Frankie Sparks, Bro. Sydney Sparks Jr, and Bro. Leonard Wilder with burial to follow in the Pea Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Tuesday.
Glendon Hisel was born May 14, 1933 in Jackson County and departed this life Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his residence, being 84 years of age. He was the son of the late Elwood & Martha Ellen (Lainhart) Hisel.
Glendon is survived by his wife, Zella Mae (Lakes) Hisel of McKee and by five children, Roy Hisel, Marvin Hisel, David Hisel and Valeria Cox all of McKee and Pamela Jones of Berea. He is also survived by five sisters, Millie Rose of Sand Gap, Deamie Long of McKee, Leola Kerby of McKee, Aileen Power of New Mexico and Ella Mae Bowen of McKee. Glendon was blessed with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Glendon was also preceded in death by a son, Vencent Hisel; by a daughter, Londa Hisel and by two brothers, Clark Hisel and Roy Hisel.
Glendon was of the Holiness Faith.
