Everett Ray Durham
Everett Ray Durham, age 79, widower of Geneva Faye McHone Durham, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Stanford. A native of Berea he was born September 20, 1938 to the late John Witt & Lucinda Wathan Durham.
Mr. Durham was a self-employed painter, loved to spend time with his family, liked fishing, westerns, antiquing and traveling. He was of the Baptist faith.
Other than his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters, two sons, a daughter and 2 grandchildren.
Mr. Durham is survived by his children, Michael Durham of Williamsburg, OH., Stevie Durham of Berea, KY., Cindy Durham of Crab Orchard and Debbi Jackson of Richmond, KY. 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday, July 7, 2017 at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis-Witt Cemetery in Rockcastle County, with full military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, July 6th. From 6-9 pm at the funeral home.
Glyndon Williams age 88, husband of the late Bula Bicknell Williams, died Friday July 7, 2017 at Baptist Health in Richmond, KY.
Glyndon was retired from Blue Grass Army Depot; he was a carpenter, and a member of the Silver Creek Baptist Church in Berea.
Glyndon was preceded in death by his parents Marshall Jack and Minnie Drew Williams and his wife Bula Williams, and his siblings Cecil Williams, Charles F. Williams, Mabel Taylor, and Gladys Romans.
Glyndon is survived by his nephews Gerald (Lena) Romans, Charles (Cindy) Romans, and niece Judy (Mike) Moren, his sisters and brothers in law: Barbara Bicknell, Bernice Smith, Imogene Powell, Francis Guinn, Eula (Taylor) Mathers, Carolyn (Junior) Bicknell, Betty (Patrick) Gooding, and Pearline (Jim) Bicknell, and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday July 11, 2017 at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Wayne Miller officiating, burial will be in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.
Sandra Jean Lowder
Sandra Jean Lowder age 52, wife of Glen Kenneth Lowder, died Thursday July 6, 2017 in Lexington. Jean was born in Berea to the late Frank Smith and Ruby Smith.
She is survived by her husband Glen Kenneth Lowder, her children Kenneth Wayne (Whitney) Lowder and Kelly Marie (Ryan Lanham) Lowder, her siblings Ronald Smith, Donald Smith, Gladys Taylor, Frances Horn, Linda Lamb, and Josephine Whitaker, and her granddaughters Emily Diane Lowder, and Nevaeh Faith Lanham.
Funeral services will be Wednesday July 12, 2017 at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea; burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.
Ruth Hall, age 86, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Berea Health Care Center in Berea, Kentucky. She was born August 12, 1930 to the late Richard and Letha Jones Lakes in Jackson County.
She was a wife and homemaker and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Albert, one son Michael Keith, brothers, Wendell, Virgil, Ernest and Lester Lakes; sisters, Burnell Lakes, Shirley Thompson, Joyce Wade and Ellen Abrams.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Joyce) Hall; seven grandchildren, Christy, Jada, Jason, Monica, Aaron, Adam and Samantha, along with numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Burchell Lakes and one sister Fairlene Allen.
Funeral services will be 1pm Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Bro. Roy Himes and Bro. Duane Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-9 pm at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Aaron Hall, Adam Hall, Terry Abrams, Hunter Rose, Jacob Rose, and Lincoln Rose.
Paula Darlene Dollins
Paula Darlene (Drew) Dollins age 51, wife of Clay Dollins, died Sunday July 2, 2017.
Paula was a graduate of Garrard County high school and EKU where she earned her Registered Nursing degree. Paula had worked at Rockcastle County hospital and Fort Logan, she was a member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Lancaster, she enjoyed going to the lake, horseback riding, traveling and being with her family, and Paula always enjoyed helping others.
Paula is survived by her parents Paul Edward Drew and Mary Alice Sharp Drew, her husband Clay Dollins, her daughters Ashley Dollins Price (Keith) and Laura Dollins, her step son Josh (Jessica) Dollins, her brother Thomas (Betsy) Drew and grandchildren: Jamison Price, Brycen Dollins, and Brylee Dollins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 1 pm at Lakes Funeral Home Berea; burial will be in the Green-Woods Cemetery in Cartersville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 am – 1 pm at the Funeral Home.
George Patrick Coyle
George Patrick Coyle, 62, of Berea, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Baptist Health Richmond. He was a Berea native born October 21, 1954, son of the late Wayde and Captola Anderson Coyle, U. S. Army Veteran, lawn maintenance worker and member of Westside Baptist Church.
Survivors include 2 siblings, Bobby Coyle and Barbara Coyle Hooker; as well as numerous relatives, friends and church family.
Graveside Committal Service 5:00 pm, Monday, July 17, 2017 at Cartersville Cemetery with Pastor Allen Livingood officiating. In accordance with George’s wishes, he was cremated and no visitation is scheduled. Reppert Funeral Home and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.
Cheryl Ann Blankenship
Cheryl Ann Blankenship, 58, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond. Born May 20, 1959, at Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Al and Billie Webb Blankenship, and a former cashier at Baptist Health – Richmond.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Blankenship of Lexington and Randy Strunk of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Barbara; four grandchildren, Dustin Blankenship, Diamian Blankenship, Trevor Brown, and Ashley Jeffries; and a long-time family friend, Dr. Paula Maioinchi.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, July 10, 2017 at the First Baptist Church on the Eastern Bypass, Richmond, with Pastor Bill Fort officiating.
Danny Gilbert Britt
Danny Gilbert Britt, 70, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his home. Born September 19, 1946, at Glasgow, Kentucky, He was the son of Gilbert and Edna Graven Britt, both of whom preceded him in death.
He received his Bachelors Degree from Western Kentucky University and his Masters Degree and PhD. in Animal Nutrition from Michigan State University. Dr. Britt was a retired Agriculture Department Chair at Eastern Kentucky University and a Director on the Board of Blue Grass Energy for about 15 years. He enjoyed teaching and loved his students whom he treated as family.
He was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church in Lucas, Kentucky and enjoyed gardening and attending his grandsons’ football games.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn Jewell Britt and one son, Danny Joe Britt; two grandchildren, Nathan and Isaac Britt, all of Richmond, one brother, Darrell Britt (Lisa) of Louisville; and one nephew, Kevin Britt of Lexington, as well as his two special pets, Sophie and Simon.
Visitation will be from 2 – 8 PM Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, KY. Visitation will continue from 4 – 8 PM Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, 801 N. Race Street, Glasgow, KY, with funeral service there at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Terry Jackson will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Steenberg, Gaylan Graven, Lyndell Graven, Kevin Britt, Freddie Button, Joe David Houchens, Jody Keller, Charles Thomas Button, and Tommy Jackson.
Esmer B. Alexander
Esmer B. Alexander, 76, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1941, in Madison County, Kentucky, to the late Alvie and Ruthie Mae Webb Alexander.
Esmer was a retired paper mill employee and owner and operator of his own cleaning business. He was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Susie Alexander and two brothers, Desmer C. Alexander and Johnny Alexander.
Survivors include his sister Reva Jean Neal, of Clay City, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with burial following at the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Frances L. Anderson
Frances L. Anderson, 91, of Lexington, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Northpoint Lexington Healthcare. She was born, November 26, 1925 the youngest of five children. She was raised in Madison County, Kentucky, the daughter of Eli and Maggie Cruse Long. Frances worked at General Motors for thirty years until retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Robert Lee Long, Lois Long, Ruby Long, and Lillian Walton.
She was a member of the Lafayette Nazarene Church for many years prior to her death. Frances made her home at Northpoint Lexington Healthcare and was loved by all.
Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Beth Ellenberg presiding. Condolences will be received by the family after 10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Frances will be laid to rest at the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, KY.
Zackary Alan Banks
Zackary Alan Banks, 40, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at his home. He was born January 25, 1977, at Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and was an Environmental Research Technician.
Zackary enjoyed skateboarding and was a loving father, whose life and happiness was centered on his son.
Survivors include his son, Dexter Alan Banks of Somerset, KY; his parents, Patty Ann (Baker) and Alan James Banks, of Richmond; one brother, Joshua James Banks of Huntsville, AL and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 – 8 PM on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Oldham Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.
Ella M. Harrison
Ella M. Harrison, 98, of Richmond, passed away Monday, July 3, 2017 at Baptist Health – Lexington. Born April 11, 1919, in Madison County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel C. and Rebecca Bishop McQueen.
Mrs. Harrison was a homemaker and had worked for the City School Patrol, as well as, a former hostess at Fort Boonesborough State Park. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Richmond Women’s Club and had served as a volunteer at McCready Manor of Richmond.
Mrs. Harrison, who was the widow of Hugh Harrison, is survived by one daughter, Nita Schwab (John) of Fountain Hills, AZ; four sons, Vernon Harrison (Carol) of Lakeland, FL, William L. Harrison (Judy) and Pete Harrison, both of Richmond, and Dr. Steven Harrison (Tammy) of Pikeville, KY; two sisters, Sarah Dickerson and Mable Newman, both of Richmond; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Jody Harrison, two sisters, Maggie Short and Minnie Tribble, and two brothers, Daniel and Willis McQueen.
Funeral service for Mrs. Harrison will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy L. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Pete Harrison, Dr. Steve Harrison, Scott Harrison, Adam Harrison and Drew Crum. Granddaughters will serve as honorary bearers.
Lynnox Everett Decker
Lynnox Everett Decker was born April 25, 2017. He was loved to the moon and back by his loving parents, Chris Decker and Amanda King of Orlando, KY. He was simply too precious for this world and gained his angel wings on July 2, 2017. Lynnox has a beautiful big sister named Leyton Rose Decker.
He is the grandson of Eddie Callahan and Machelle Decker-Callahan of Mt. Vernon and Charles and the late Patti King of Berea. Great grandparents are Sherry Decker and the late Eddie Decker, Yvonna and the late Everett King, the late Sue and Leonard Johnson, and Reta McFerron and the late Jessie McFerron. Lynnox is blessed with Great-Great Grandma Lucille Stewart. Lynnox is the nephew of Brandon Bussell, Drake Callahan, Tina Blanton and Rodney, Josh McFerron and Gabrielle, Rhonda Shepherd and Lloyd, Steve Brockman and Kathy, Arnold Brockman, Jeff Brockman and Kristen and Jennifer Brown and Mark. He was adored by two special friends of the family, Stanley Adams and Brooke Bentley, and by a whole slew of followers who we lovingly refer to as “Team Lynnox”.
There will be a public visitation Friday, July 7 from 6-9 PM at Dowell & Martin Funeral Home. The funeral service and interment will be private. The family would like it known that the funeral arrangements have been taken care of financially.
Mr. Tafton Carpenter age 102, of Mt.Vernon passed away Friday July 7, 2017 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Berea. He was born on May 8, 1915 in Rockcastle County the son of the late Toby and Jane Rash Carpenter.
He was a farmer, enjoyed fishing, singing in church, playing guitar, and was a member of the Crab Orchard Pentecostal Church.
Survivors are: his wife; Mrs. Sally Bustle Carpenter of Mt.Vernon. Two sons; Marvin Dean Carpenter of Orlando, and Edgar Arvil Carpenter of Brodhead. Three step-sons; Cecil Gray Jr. of Mt.Vernon, James Gray of Springdale, Oh, and Brian Gray of Fairfield, OH. One step-daughter; Judy Pottenger of Hamilton, Oh. Three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Tafton Carpenter will be conducted at 11AM on Tuesday July 11, 2017 at the Cox Funeral Home with Bro. Don King, Bro. Lonnie McGuire, and Bro. Virgil Bustle officiating. Burial will follow in the Ball Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 AM on Tuesday.
Mr. Lloyd Kirby age 79, Mt.Vernon passed away Sunday July 2, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 23, 1937 in Rockcastle County the son of the late William Herman and Dollie Marler Kirby.
He was a retired custodian for the Rockcastle County Schools, enjoyed working outside, cars, dogs, western movies and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are: four sons; Ben Kirby (Renee), Bill Kirby (Pat), and Bobby Kirby (Ruth) all of Mt.Vernon, and Brad Kirby (Lisa) of Beattyville. Four daughters; Diane Bell of Richmond, KY, Donna McKinney (Butch) of Waco, KY, Debbie Burdette (Rick) of Brodhead, and Lisa Benedict (Patrick) of Berea. Three sisters; Lillian Bullock, Joyce Wilkerson, and Lois Booth all of Mt.Vernon. 21 Grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by; his wife of 56 years; Cuba Bullock Kirby, and by one sister; Ruth Mullins.
Funeral services for Mr. Lloyd Kirby will be conducted 1 PM Thursday July 6, 2017 at the Cox Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirby Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM on Wednesday.
Lloyd Arnold Callahan
Lloyd Arnold Callahan, age 53 of Richmond, KY formerly of McKee, KY was born on July 1, 1964 to Polly Hatton Callahan and Raymond Callahan. He departed this life at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY on July 4, 2017 with his mother, brother and sisters by his side.
Lloyd is survived by his mother, Polly Hatton Witt and by the following siblings, Nancy (Irvin) Chasteen, Gordon (Kataruah) Witt, Rachel (Lannie) Davidson, and Elizabeth (Tim) Smith and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Raymond Callahan and his step dad, Stanley Witt that raised him.
Funeral service 3:00PM Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home McKee with Bro. Kenneth Wilder and Bro. Kevin Cooper officiating. Burial followed in the Robinson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon till time of funeral service.
Pallbearers were Brandon Chasteen, Lannie Davidson, Jr., Caleb Davidson, Gordon Andrew Lawrence Witt, Breydan Rogers, Bartt & Brett Morris, Clarence B. Hatton, Daniel Hatton & Kendall Pearson.
