Douglas C. Harris

Douglas C. Harris

Douglas C. Harris, age 68, died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Warren County Ohio on January 22, 1949 to the late Chester Harry and Evalyn Bunnell Harris.

Mr. Harris was a lifelong member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE). He was an avid Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State fan, and enjoyed watching Sci Fi and collecting elephants.
Other than his parents he was also preceded in death by a niece, Evie Harris.

Mr. Harris is survived by his daughter, Sarah Harris Pack of Lexington, Kentucky, his surrogate daughters, Shannon Walker Hamilton of Lexington, Kentucky, Kimberly White of Berea, Kentucky, Stevie Johnson Cheesman of Fishers, Indiana, and Deborah Woodcock of Lexington, Kentucky. Surrogate son-in-law, Ryan Hamilton, of Lexington, Kentucky. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Paul Edward Harris and his wife, Emily of Middletown, Ohio and Kathy Sue Harris, (Gary) of Springboro, Ohio. Nieces and nephews, Leah Nicole Harris, Ryan Logan Harris and his wife Tracy, Jessica Harris Meisinger and her husband Dan, and Nate Harris.

A celebration of Douglas’ life will take place 1:00 pm Saturday, July 01, 2017 at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home in Berea, Kentucky with Rev. Glenn Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Honorary bearers will be his Tau Kappa Epsilon brothers.

Anthony D. Lawson

Anthony D. Lawson, age 53, of Winchester, passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2017.

Anthony was an employee of Amazon Inc. in Winchester and a U.S. Marines veteran.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents the late Steve and Geraldine Lawson.

He is survived by his three children Brian Lawson, Nikki Lawson and Lila Rogers; two brothers Jimmy Lawson and Joe Lawson; one sister Renea Lawson; and five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rogers, Katrina Rogers, Emily Gleissner, Raylan Lawson, and Olivia Lawson.

Memorial services for Anthony will be 2pm, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea. The family will be accepting visitors after 12pm until time of services.

Zelia Keaton

Zelia May Hoskins Keaton, 86, died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Annville. She was a Red House native born April 12, 1931, daughter of the late Van and Genett Harris Hoskins, a homemaker, and a resident of Madison and Fayette Counties for most of her life and of the Baptist faith and married Chester Keaton in 1969.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Willis (Harry) and a son Charles Willis (Pam). She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, the late Chester Keaton

Private cemetery burial at the Garrett Cemetery in Estill County.

Darlene Haney

Darlene Rose Haney, 73, of Berea, died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at her residence after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was a Irvine, Kentucky native born November 25, 1943, daughter of the late Thurman and China Isaacs Rose, retired Parker Seal Company employee, member of West Side Baptist Church, and had been a resident of Berea most of her life.

Survivors include her son, David (Paula) Jenkins; life partner, Clinton “Red” Padgett; 3 grandchildren, Trevor, Kyra, Peyton; niece, Joan (Larry) Chrisman; nephew, Mike (Kathy) Adams; as well as a host of friends and church family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 2 siblings, Leman Rose, Mabel Adams.

Funeral Service 11:00 am Thursday, June 22, 2017 at West Side Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Livingood officiating. Burial will follow in Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 pm Wednesday at Reppert Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Jenkins, Daniel Padgett, Steven Padgett, Cody Adams, Wayne Wagner, Shane Chrisman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Adams, Larry Chrisman.

Judy Dickerson

Judy Norris Dickerson, 74, of Berea, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at U. K. Medical Center following a short illness. She was a Knoxville, Tennessee native born September 28, 1942, daughter of the late James and Helen Bohanon Norris. Judy came to Berea College and remained a Berea resident thereafter.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Class of 1964), she obtained a teaching position with the Kentucky School System and taught until she retired from Paint Lick Elementary School in Garrard County. While teaching, Judy continued her education and received a Masters in Education from Eastern Kentucky University (Class of 1987).

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. After retirement she remained busy with her flower gardens, making crafts and antiquing. Through her entire life, her main concern and love was for her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband, J. C. Dickerson; 4 children, Rodney (Karen) Gabbard, Sherry (Brandon L.) McIntosh; Teresa (David) Haney, David (Gail) Dickerson; 2 siblings, Marjorie Harris and Steve (Debbie) Norris; 11 grandchildren, Lukas, Griffin, Dawson, Dustin, Stevi, Whitney, Brooklyn, Brianna, Brandy, Kayla, Aaron; 9 great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Kennedy, Mackenzie, Colten, Addison, Raelyn, Isaiah, Kirsti, Kenzie; as well as numerous relatives, friends and church family.

Funeral Service 1:00 pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Joey Kayes and Pastor Allen Livingood officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation 6:00 – 9:00 pm Monday, June 19, 2017 at the church. Reppert Funeral Home & Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.

Mary L. Grise

Mary L. Grise, 83, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond, following a long very painful illness that had resulted in paralysis of both legs. She was born August 3, 1933, on High Reeves Road in Madison County to the late James Franklin and Goldie (Poynter) Luster.

She attended Union City and Doylesville Schools, as well as, Casey County, Kentucky. Mary was the owner and operator of her restaurant, “Mary’s Restaurant” on Big Hill Avenue in Richmond, and she was a cashier at the United Department Store, owned by Mayor Ed Waymon.

In June, 1971, Mary was married to William P. Grise, M.D., who interned and took surgery training at Good Samaritan Hospital, and she managed their office until she and Dr. Grise retired in March, 1994. Mary and Dr. Grise were members and attended Shiloh Ministries near Clays Ferry.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, William, James, John, Cecil, Luther, Coleman “Buck”, Russell and an infant, Alexander, as well as, two sisters, Annie Laura and Flossie.

In addition to her husband, Dr. Grise, she is survived by three children, Connie Diane Miles, of Trapp, KY, a nurse in Winchester, KY, James Robert Wall, of Alexandria, VA, who is retired from government service in the White House Communications Agency (WHCA), and Dwayne Gregory Wall, of Richmond, KY, who is a computer repairs technician. Her only survivors are her three children and Dr. Grise.

Service for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Harry Revel officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Roy Quinn, Bro. Harry Revel, Don Jaynes, Garnett Parke, Billy Luxon, Jo Luxon, Frank Kourt, and Ann Kourt.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Salvation Army.

Beverly Ann Sherbet

Beverly Ann Sherbet, 79, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Baptist Health – Richmond. She was born April 2, 1938, in Northville, Michigan to the late Charles Everett and Florence Marie Schroeder Angell. She was a homemaker and of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include her loving husband, Paul D. Sherbet of Richmond; one son, Paul Alan Sherbet (Katherine) of Brownstown, MI; two daughters, Debbie Marie Morefield (Bill) of Hartland, MI and Vicki Lynn Sherbet of Richmond; one sister, Cheri Bogetta of Northville, MI; four grandchildren Jessica and Sarah Gordon and Evan and Laura Sherbet; as well as one great-grandson, Austin Sherbet.

Service for Beverly will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 23, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with James Tyra officiating.

Nadine Cornett

Nadine Cornett, 88, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Berea Health & Rehab. She was the widow of Dover Cornett. Nadine was born on December 20, 1928 in Blackey, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Phillip H. and Louisa Back Shepherd, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in the Richmond City School System at Mayfield Elementary for 23 years. She attended Salem Christian Church, and was a member of the Kentucky and Madison County Retired Teacher’s Associations, as well as the Association of University Women.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: three brothers, Vernon Harold, Donald and Bobby Shepherd, and one sister, Billie Sue Wiggins.

Survivors include: two sons, Stanley Nelson Cornett, of Columnia, SC, and Douglas Wayne Cornett (Laura), of Cocoa, FL; five grandchildren, Brent Cornett, Meghan Cornett, Jason Cornett, MSgt. Kyle Cornett, and Kristen Cornett; five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Emory, Cecelia, Audrey, and William; two brothers, Jimmy Shepherd and Richard Shepherd (Linda); and two sisters, Loraine Dawson (Richard) and Imogene Barnes.

Funeral services for Nadine will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. John McCord officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be 2:00- 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Funeral Home.

Glenn David Anderson, 78, passed away at VA Medical Center on Sunday, June 18, 2017 surrounded by his family. Glenn was born on December 8, 1938 to Dorothy and Conrad Anderson of Cynthiana, Kentucky.

Glenn served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and 3 years in the Naval Reserve. He retired from GTE/ Verizon after 30 years. Glenn was a member of Grace Point Church (formerly Cornerstone Baptist Church) where he was very active until he became ill in 2014. He loved his church and his church family.

He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Harvey Anderson; three daughters, Amy (Robert) Thomas, Debbie (John) Chenault, and Kathy (Robert) Vasquez; one son, David Allen Anderson; seven grandchildren, Bobby, Ricky, and Alyssa Vasquez, Sara Morgan, Samantha Morgan (Justin), Samuel Thomas, and Marie Anderson; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Riddle; one nephew, Steve Clifford; two step-daughters, Crystal (Lawrence) Burton and April (Delbert) Dixon; one step-son, Bruce (Stephanie) King; six step-grandchildren, Kristen Cobb, Leigh Ann Lammon, Sarah (Matt) Garner, Brooke (Taylor) Jones, Haylie King, and Braelyn King; Five step-great-grandchildren; and a special friend Evelyn Ballew.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Greg and Paul Anderson; and two grandsons, Joey Morgan and Zack Crump.

Funeral services for Glenn Anderson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Christian and Bro. Gary Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Vasquez, Steve Clifford, Robert Thomas, John Chenault, Ricky Vasquez, and Bobby Vasquez.

Barry Wayne Boswell

Barry Wayne Boswell, 52, of Irvine, KY, husband of Sharon Conrad Boswell, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Wallace and Marcum Hospital in Irvine. He was born November 12, 1964 in Lexington, Kentucky, and worked in auto detailing before becoming disabled.

Other than his wife Sharon, he is survived by his parents, Sarah Katherine Boswell (Ralph) Cox, one daughter Sarah Boswell, and nine brothers and sisters, Billy Boswell, Freddie Boswell, Peggy Sue Boswell, two that proceeded him and death Darlene King, and Jimmy Boswell, and survived by Ralph Cox Jr., Don Cox, Shirley Roberts, Kathy Rose, Mark Cox and Anita Combs.

Funeral services for Barry will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Dan Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Josh Rawlins, Isaiah Harvey, J.R. Sparks, Cody Collins, Chub Roberts and James Goble.

Sheila Miller

Sheila May Gooch Miller, 49, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 17, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 7, 1968, in Richmond, the daughter of the late Rev. Frank Jr. and Ethel Riddel Gooch. She was a homemaker and was a member of The Blue Lick Holiness Church.

Survivors include her husband: Daniel H. Miller; one son: Zachary Daniel “Zack” Miller; six sisters: Brenda Carol Sparks (Donald), Kathy Miller (Bobby), Rebecca Ann Gooch, Shawnetta Poff, Lois Lynn Sanchez (Tommy) and Priscilla Hoskins (Jim); three brothers: Teddy Lee Gooch (Danelle), Michael Gooch and Namon Neal Gooch (Wanda); several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Ross, Bro. Bruce Alcorn and Bro. Chris Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Gooch Family Cemetery at Dreyfus. Visitation will be after 4:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Deborah Darlene Masters

Deborah Darlene Hankins Masters, 63, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at her home. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on October 28, 1953.

She was a 1971 Graduate of Madison Central High School and attended Revival Tabernacle. She was a loving mother and grandmother who had loved many children and adopted them in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fremont Hankins; her mother, Mary Leona Cox Riddell; her step-father who raised her, John Riddell and a daughter, Leona Catrice Farthing.

Survivors include two daughters, Davina Richardson and Mary Smith; one brother, Randy Hankins (DeeDee); a sister, Kathy Hall-Combs; three grandchildren, Nora Matteleine Flannery (Larry), Danny Davis, and LaDonna Smith; and many kids and grandkids out of the love she was so generous in giving.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Revival Tabernacle, 129 Big Hill Ave., Richmond, KY 40475 with Bro. David Lamb, Bro. Walter Rhodus and Bro. Marshall Abrams officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Lick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM – 2 PM Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Hermie Dean Perkins, Dwayne Perkins, Billy Riddell, Patricia & Billy Horn, Kathy Combs, Danny Ray Flannery, Danny Davis, Charles Clark, Kwyntyn Marshall and John Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be all her cousins, Calvin & Connie Dore’ and Gary Riddell.

Jamie Faith Chaney

Jamie Faith Thompson Chaney, age 39, of Hope Estates in Irvine, passed away Friday, June 23rd at the University of Kentucky Hospital.  She was born January 3, 1978, in Madison County, a daughter of Doris Ann West Wheat and the late James Edward Thompson. 

She was a CMA at the White House Clinic in Richmond and had lived in Estill County most of her life. 

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Brian Keith Chaney. 

In addition to her mother, she is also survived by 1 Daughter Ronni Cailyn Gross of Irvine, 3 Sisters Ann Thompson (Chris) of Clark Co., Barbara Cooper (Todd) of Florida, Sandra Jo Fielder (Mike) of Louisville, Step-Father: Bert Wheat, Nieces and Nephews: Tiffany Boyd, Jason Tyler Boyd, Christara Lee, and Aiden West and Great Niece: Emma Boyd.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 1 PM at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel.  Friends may call between 6 and 9 PM Monday.
