The campaign will include additional enforcement efforts over Memorial Day weekend, which historically is one of the highest travel periods of the year. NHTSA also estimates that seat belts, when worn correctly, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and the risk of moderate-to-critical injury by 50 percent. For pickup trucks, SUVs and van occupants, seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 60 percent and moderate-to critical injury by 65 percent.

During this enforcement period, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies will increase patrols looking for drivers who are speeding, driving distracted, or driving under the influence. In addition, deputies will conduct traffic safety checkpoints at approved locations looking for unbuckled motorists.
