Richmond Police Report Sept. 23, 2015

Additional Theft/Drug Arrest: On 09/18/2015, police charged Shannon Matthews, age 26, Jacks Creek Road, for numerous drug and property offenses following an investigation into a burglary offense. Matthews was the second person charged in as many days for their involvement in the crime. On 09/17/2015, police charged Jerry D. Masengale Jr., age 34, no permanent address, Richmond, for similar offenses.

On 08/12/2015, residents of an apartment in the 300 block of High Street reported that their home had been broken into and numerous items of clothing, athletic shoes, jewelry items, and television were stolen. The estimated loss was valued at $6445.00.

On 08/13/2015, the investigating patrol officer developed information that some of the stolen items were located in a residence I the 300 block of Logan Avenue. Upon making contact with those inside the residence, officers recovered four pair of athletic shoes and several items of clothing stolen during the burglary. As a result, officers charged Jackie R. Bishop, age 22, Logan Avenue, for Receiving Stolen Property Under $500. He was cited and released.

On 08/15/2015, the investigating patrol officer developed further information that led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Big Hill Avenue that was occupied by Masengale and Deborah Slone, age 50. None were present at the time the warrant was executed. During the search of the residence, officers recovered 30 pair of athletic shoes and 33 hats that had been stolen from the aforementioned residence on High Street. A Verizon Galaxy tablet stolen from Huntington, WV, in 2014 was also recovered at the residence.

In addition, officers seized approximately four grams of methamphetamine, 14.5 hydrocodone pills, 18 Gabapentin pills, a small amount of heroin, a small amount of marijuana, a Suboxone packet, and various other items of drug use and trafficking paraphernalia.

Two .22 caliber rifles were also found in the residence even though Masengale is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.

On 08/16/2015, police located Slone and took her into custody. During a search of her person at the MCDC, a hydrocodone pill was recovered. Slone was charged for the following offenses:

– Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (2 counts)
– Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree
– Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree
– Promoting Contraband 1st Degree
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (6 counts)

On 08/26/205, a warrant was issued for Masengale’s arrest, charging him for the following offenses:

– Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (3 counts)
– Trafficking in a Legend Drug
– Possession of Marijuana
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
– Receiving Stolen Property under $500
– Receiving Stolen Property $500 to $10,000
– Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

On the same date, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Matthews, charging her for the following offenses:

– Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (3 counts)
– Trafficking in a Legend Drug
– Possession of Marijuana
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
– Possession of Marijuana
– Receiving Stolen Property under $500
– Receiving Stolen Property $500 to $10,000

On 09/17/2015, Masengale was taken into custody when he appeared at the Madison Circuit Court in an unrelated case. He was lodged in the MCDC.

On 09/18/2015, Matthews was located at the Country Hearth Inn, 230 Eastern Bypass, and taken into custody on the strength of the aforementioned warrant. At the time of her arrest, Matthews was found to be in possession of approximately one-half ounce of marijuana and over $950.00 in cash. She was further charged for Trafficking in Marijuana (less than 8 ounces) and lodged in the MCDC.

Vandalism Charge: On 09/20/2015, police charged Aubrey D. Whittamore, age 26, Kristin Drive, for vandalizing another party’s vehicle.

On 09/19/2015, an acquaintance of Whittamore reported that the two had been engaged in a verbal argument on Kristin Drive. Following the argument, Whittamore was observed inflicting a large scratch down the right side of the victim’s passenger car. Damage was estimated to be in excess of $1000.00.

On 09/20/2015, was taken into custody following an interview and lodged in the MCDC, charged for Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.

Assault Arrest: On 09/21/2015, police charged Freddie J. Durham II, age 24, E. Irvine Street, in connection with a knife attack on a woman in August 2015.

On 08/23/2015, an officer was dispatched to Baptist Health, Richmond, to investigate a report of a female being treated for knife wound. Upon arrival, the officer met with the 28 year-old-female victim who was suffering from a severe laceration to the left side of her face along the jaw line.

The victim reported that she was a visitor to the home of Durham and his wife when an argument occurred between her and Durham. During the course of the argument, which centered on the victim leaving the residence, Durham retrieved a kitchen knife and cut the victim along the left side of her face. The victim then left the residence and sought medical treatment at the hospital. She required seven stitches to close the approximate 5” laceration.

A subsequent search of the Durham residence produced the knife suspected of being used in the attack, but Durham had fled the scene.

On 08/28/2015, a warrant was issued for Durham’s arrest, charging him for Assault 2nd Degree.

On 09/21/2015, Durham was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident. He was lodged in the MCDC.
