Burglary Arrest: On 09/04/2015, police arrested Aaron Shanks, age 40, Ridgefield Road, after he fired a handgun outside of a residence and then forced his way into the residence while armed.
At approximately 1:24 A.M., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Turpin Drive in response to a report of shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers learned that Shanks was engaged in an argument with two others while in the parking lot of an apartment building when he fired five rounds into the air from a handgun. Shanks then proceeded to force his way into the victims’ (those with whom he was in dispute) apartment while armed. He then fled the scene in a vehicle. Initial attempts to locate the vehicle were unsuccessful. However, officers later located the vehicle at an apartment building in the 1200 block of Arlington Drive. When Shanks exited one of the apartments and approached another vehicle, he was detained and a loaded handgun was recovered from the vehicle. A search of Shanks’ person produced a small amount of marijuana.
Shanks was charged for the following offenses and lodged in the MCDC:
– Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
– Burglary 1st Degree
– Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
– Possession of Marijuana
Burglary Arrest: On 09/01/2015, police arrested Mark E. Rogers, age 47, no permanent address, in connection with the unlawful entry into a residence and an assault on the occupant.
At approximately 10:30 P.M., an officer was flagged down by a resident in the 400 block of N. Third Street. The resident reported that he was asleep in his home when a man broke in and assaulted him. The victim was observed to have swelling around his eye and blood on his chin. When officers checked his residence, they found that the point of entry was the rear door where the glass had been broken out. They also observed that the stove, refrigerator, and book shelf had been turned over inside the residence. Several other items of property inside the home were damaged as well. After assaulting the victim, the suspect exited the front door by breaking the glass and damaging the storm door.
Prior to receiving the above complaint, officers were in the area looking for a man who reportedly was bleeding and had threatened another party in the parking lot of Redi Mart on N. Second Street. Officers subsequently tracked the male to a vacant trailer in the 600 block of N. Second Street and took him into custody. He was identified as Rogers and was bleeding from cuts on his arms.
The victim of the assault and Rogers were both treated for minor injuries at Baptist Health and released.
Rogers was lodged in the MCDC, charged for the following offenses:
– Burglary 1st Degree
– Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
– Assault 4th Degree
Wanted: On 08/29/2015 this suspect stole $42.39 worth of beer from Speedway on Merrick Drive. He was driving a silver Dodge Durango with damage to the drivers side.
