Bailey Sue Paige Sparks, infant daughter of Curtis Sparks and Samantha Powell, passed away at birth on Saturday, July 11, 2015.

Other survivors include two brothers, Dylan Sparks & Andrew Wellman; a sister, Madison Sparks; her maternal grandmother, Lisa Roberts; maternal grandfather, Mike Powell; paternal grandparents, Billy “Sparky” & Tiffany Sparks; maternal great-grandmother, Sue Pennington; paternal great-grandparents, Earnest and Rose Childers and Lester Sparks; uncles, Roy Lee and Dillon Roberts; aunts, Taylor, Abby and Bella Powell.

She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandmother, Faye Sparks.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 PM Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Vester Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the Bark Road Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12:00 PM (Noon) Wednesday at the funeral home.

Derek Meade 29 years old, born May 30, 1986 and passed away July 11, 2015, he was a loving husband and father.

Derek was survived by his wife Sarah Meade and their two daughters Ciara Marie Meade and Latrenda Madisan Meade. Derek was a loving caring husband and father.

He enjoyed deer, turkey, and coon hunting. Derek also enjoyed ginseng root and mushroom hunting. He was an avid outdoorsman. Derek built houses and was the best roofer.

Derek was survived by his parents, his father Rodelle (Christy) Meade and mother Robin (Eric) Sowers, his brother Zack Meade, his nieces Mary Ann Cope, Raelynn Cope and Penelope Cope. He was survived by father-in-law William Cope Sr., mother-in-law Mary Cope, brother-in-law William Cope Jr., and sister-in-law Rachel Cope. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death grandparents Willard and Gladiola Meade and Johnny and Joyce Sowers.

Funeral services will be 2pm Monday July 20, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with Bro. Darren Slone officiating. Burial will follow in the Scaffold Cane Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11am -2pm at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Meade.

Helen Elam Starnes, 89, of Fall Lick Rd. in Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Danville. Born February 7, 1926, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Delia Bell McQuerry Elam.

She had been a homemaker, a farmer and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul, a son, Paul Wayne Starnes, two sisters Gladys Eloise Bourne and Barbara Lois Starnes and one great-great grandchild.

Her survivors include: her daughter, Brunette (Tommy) Arnold, of Lancaster; brothers, J.W. “Buddy” Elam and Donnie Elam, both of Stanford, Bill Elam, of Hustonville; two sisters, Cloyd Naylor, of Lancaster, and Lucy Belle Rose, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Virginia (Gary) Grimes, Jimmy Arnold, Charles (LaDonna) Starnes and Steven (Amy) Starnes; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home by Revs. John Todd and Charlie Lynn with burial following in Paint Lick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at the funeral home.

Mary E. Combs, 89, originally of Richmond, Ky., passed away at her home on July 12, 2015 in Schenectady, N.Y.

Mary is survived by her children: Nancy Edmonds and her husband Richard, of Schenectady, N.Y. and William D. Combs, Jr. and his wife Vicky, of Crestwood, Ky.; her brother Robert “Junior” Moody and his wife Nancy, of Richmond, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service for Mary will be held at the Richmond Cemetery at a future date.

Olevia B. Ballew-Clay Frye, 87, formerly of Richmond, passed away June 23, 2015, at Universtiy of Cincinnati Hospital in Ohio. Daughter of the late Atrus Ballew and Pattie Grubbs-Ballew, she was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, and one daughter.

Olevia was survived by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.

Memorial grave site service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richmond. A life celebration will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 5 p.m.. at Ballew Estate, located at 263 Charlie Norris Road, Richmond.

Wanda Jo Singleton, age 60, died Thursday July 09, 2015 at Baptist Health Richmond. Born August 16, 1954 in Lexington, KY to the late Wallace and Joan Tevis Singleton.

Mrs. Singleton was a member of First Baptist Church Francis & Collins in Richmond, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Elks Benevolence. She retired from the Richmond Police Department after 24 plus years’ service, starting as a secretary, and retiring as an Assistant Chief and served for a time as Interim Chief of Police.

Wanda was a member of the Kentucky Chapter of I.B.P.O.E. Elks of the World. She held offices as a member of the Golden Link Temple 123 Winchester, Kentucky.

In addition to recorder and chaplain, as a member the Kentucky State Assembly, she held the office of “Loyal Daughter Ruler of the Juanita District Council for several years. She also held the office of 2nd vice daughter Ruler of the Kentucky State association of Temples.

She was also a member of the Richmond High School Alumni Planning Committee.

In 2011 Wanda was the recipient of the “Asher Lodge 49 Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons of KY”, Achievement certificate in appreciation of dedication to her community, state and country.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Singleton.

Mrs. Singleton is survived by: her son, Marcus (Ameia) Singleton of Richmond, her life partner, Spencer Morgan of Richmond, her sisters, Vivian Cowart of Cincinnati, OH, and Dorcie Gardner of Richmond, KY, her brother, Lynn Brooks of Texas, aunts and uncles, Eileen Mason of Waco, Ky, Jimmy ( Lois ) Tevis of Berea, KY, Gary (Carrie) Noland of Richmond, KY, Betsy Shanks of Richmond, KY, Louise Turner of Richmond, KY, and her great aunt Lucille McClure of Cincinnati, OH.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 17, 2015 at 12 noon at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Robert R. Blythe officiating and Rev. Mitchell Brown delivering the eulogy. Entombment will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

William Earl Childers, 60, of Waco, passed away Saturday morning, July 11, 2015 at his home. He was born July 16, 1954, in Richmond, to Leniel and Dorothy Kaylor Childers, of Waco.

Earl was a graduate of Madison Central High School where he was a member of the basketball team. His love for basketball, and all sports, especially University of Kentucky sports, continued throughout his life. He was an avid NASCAR Racing fan and enjoyed bird hunting. Earl was an employee of Concrete Materials for many years and had a great love for farming and the family farm.

In addition to his parents, Earl is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Scenters Childers, of Waco, and one son, Micah Shane Childers (and Amanda), of Richmond; three grandchildren, Hailey Hensley, Reagan Childers and Tucker Childers; one sister, Patty Sebastian (and Paul), of Waco; three brothers, Richard Childers (and Sally). of Richmond, Ricky Childers (and Pam) and Tommy Childers (and Carla), all of Waco, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Dr. David Bohannon officiating. Burial will follow in the Childers Family Cemetery in Waco. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Larry “Bo” King age 74, brother of Glyndon King, died Saturday July 11, 2015 in Berea.

Larry was a sales clerk for Middletown Industrial for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents George M. and Cora Bryant King, and his sister Nancy Tucker.

He is survived by his brother Glyndon (Clara) King of Berea, a niece Kathy Lipps and nephew John Tucker both of Berea, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday July 15, 2015 at 8 pm at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Kenny Davis officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home; burial will be in the Robinson Cemetery.

Edric White Newman, 85, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond. She was born in Richmond, Kentucky on December 15, 1929, to Shelby and Irene Clem White, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was the widow of Delton C. Newman and a retired Circuit Clerk of Madison County, where she served for 30 years. Mrs. Newman was a member of Kirksville Baptist Church and the Madison County Democratic Women’s Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Leach (Jerry) of Richmond; one son, Thomas Newman (Deena) of Leesburg, Georgia; four grandchildren, Kelly Philbeck, the Honorable William “Bo” Leach, Whitney McWilliams and Alison Newman, as well as four great-grandchildren, Eric Philbeck, Noah McWilliams, Addilyn Leach and Ellory Leach.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda White and a brother, Shelby White.

Services for Mrs. Newman will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronnie “Butch” Pennington and Rev. Thomas Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

He was a retired employee of the Department of Veteran Affairs and an Army Veteran of W W II where he received the Bronze Star Medal.

He was the father of Dr. Teresa McGlone (Dr. Vernon McGlone) and Kathy Yates (Matthew Yates), both of Richmond.

Private family services and burial will be held.

Yvonda E. “Peanut” Schneider, 52, of Richmond, left this world on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. She was born on September 9, 1962 in Berea to J.T. and Mildred Presley Carpenter.

She enjoyed being with her animals, going to church and riding to Vanceburg, Kentucky to visit with her grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Daniel M. Schneider; three sons: Bryan Carpenter of Covington, Jonathan & Tiffney Carpenter of Berea and Daniel & Angie Schneider, Jr. of Richmond; five daughters: Cheryl & Elden Perkins, Tracy & Robert Fain all of Nicholasville, Tammie & Kevin Bowyer of Destin, FL, Margie Schneider of Ashland City, TN and Laura & Bo Flichum of Nicholasville; three brother: Johnny Carpenter and Larry Carpenter of Richmond and Randy Powell of Berea; her sister: Kathy Hornsby of Richmond; 17 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren with one on the way , her grandmother: Doris Brown, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. next Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Kirksville with Rev. Ricky Horn officiating.

William Frank “Billy” Rawlins, 60, of Moberly Ave., passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at his home. Billy, the son of the late Frank and Marie Muncie Rawlins, was born July 16, 1954 in Madison County.

He had worked for the Kentucky State Highway Department and the Juddmonte Horse Farm in Lexington. He went on to retire from the Maintenance Department of Eastern Kentucky University. He was best known for his love for riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a member of no organizations but he rode with all.

On July 14, 1984, Billy united in marriage to Sally Ann Kearns Rawlins. They just celebrated 31 years of marriage.

He is also survived by his brother: Shelby & Yvonne Rawlins of Richmond; his sister: Patty & Jack McClung of Aurora, CO; two nieces: Janien Bingham and Amy & Chris Graham; his nephew: Trevor McClung; his great niece: Emily Graham; and his great nephew: Cameron Graham.

He was also preceded in death by his sister: Nancy Rawlins and his nephew: Brett Bingham.

Irmgard “Irm” Elsbeth Sutherland, adored wife, sister, aunt, and friend died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the age of 72. She was the widow of Grey Sutherland. Irm shared her home with her sister for 22 years. They were the proverbial “Waldorf and Statler” and the very best of friends.

Born in Backnang Germany, she dreamed of coming to the United States and did so at the age of 22, not being able to speak English. She learned far more than the language and embraced so much of life in Kentucky, while also keeping her German roots.

She was proprietor of the Downtowner Bar and later was a bartender at the Coachhouse restaurant, both in Lexington.

Her unusual accent, short stature, and unique blend of hospitality, with an attitude, resulted in many lifelong friends.

While she will be missed, she lives on in the memory of so many. Irm is survived by her nephew, William “Lee” Mullins, his wife Macy and their children all of Lexington.

Services will be held in her honor at 6:00 P.M. Friday at the Kerr Brother’s Funeral Home, Main St. The family will receive friends after 5:00 P.M. Friday.

Stanton Rhodus, 87, of Valley View, widower of Vertie Rutherford Rhodus, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home. Mr. Rhodus, the son of the late Irvine and Nettie Kelley Rhodus, was born in Madison County on April 7, 1928.

He retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was a co-owner of S & V Grocery in Valley View. He enjoyed gardening, going to flea markets and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia.

Survivors include: his son: William Stanley “Bill” Rhodus (Betty Sue) of Richmond; five daughters: Ruby Fay Campbell (Jerry) of Waco, Elsie Ray Lewis (Andy) of Richmond, Marsha Mae Perkins (John) of Richmond, Dina Rhodus Willis of Richmond and Dessie Willis (James) of Richmond; thirteen grandchildren: Jerri Campbell Barton, Greg Campbell, Billie Rhodus, Melissa Baldwin, Suzanne Lewis, Windy Lewis, Amanda Perkins, John M. Perkins, Stanley Joe Rhodus, April Willis, James A. Willis, Amy M. Perkins and Irvine “Nick” Perkins and 25 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter: Connie Sue Rhodus and his brothers and sisters, as well as, a special nephew: Leonard Kelley.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Guiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jeannette Bonny King, 85, widow of Joseph M. King, passed away Monday, at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, after a long illness. Mrs. King was a native of Madison County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle Clouse Bonny.

She was a former telephone operator, the proprietor of Jen’s Fabric shop for 17 years, she was a member of the Irvine United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class, She was a member of the Woman’s Club, Kiwanis Club, Homemaker’s Club, Eastern Star #357, the Garden Club She was a bowling enthusiast, and a member of a women’s state champion team.

Mrs. King was very active in her community, volunteering for the Mushroom festival, tutoring reading at the local elementary schools, and playing the part of Mrs.Claus in the annual Christmas Parade for many, many years. She enjoyed reading, and writing poetry, and prose.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Lucille Bonny, A.W. Bonny, Toots Bonny Hall, Ann Bonny Stickley, Thomas Bonny, Ed Bonny, Bill Bonny and her twin brother Gene Bonny. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Joseph M. “Jay” King III.

Survivors include her daughter Nada (Mark) Witt; her sons Joseph M. (Sheila) King II, and Gene Scott (Valerie) King, all of Irvine; her brother Jim Bonny of Dayton; her sister Peggy Garrett of Irvine; her grandchildren Jennifer (Brad) Reynolds, Janet (Zach) Thompson, Victoria (Drew) Barnett,, Andrew Witt, Nicole King, and Summer King, all of Irvine, Stephanie (Chip) Collins, of Richmond; her great-grandchildren Havyn Reynolds, Easton Reynolds, Carter Barnett, and Lyla Collins, all of Irvine; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held Friday, July 17th, at 1:00 pm at the Irvine United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Hatton, Rev. John Hatton, and Bro. Jimmy Bonny officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 pm Thursday, at Lewis Funeral Home, and after 10:00 am until service time Friday, at the church.

Patsy Charlene Barnes Puckett, age 61, of Winchester Road in Irvine, passed away July 13 at the University of Kentucky Hospital after a sudden illness. She was born December 22, 1953, in Estill County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Jewel Christine Willoughby Barnes.

She was a retired teacher with the Estill County School System and a clinical educator at Eastern Kentucky University. She attended the Corinth Christian Church and had lived in Estill County all of her life.

She is survived by Her Husband Robert Wayne Puckett, 1 Daughter Christina Kissick (Kyle) of Ohio, 1 Son: Stuart Puckett (Rikki) of Lexington. 4 Sisters Barbara Hunter (Terry) of North Carolina, Peggy Perkins (Steve) of Lexington, Connie Glasson (Tracy) of Irvine, Bonnie Riddell (James) of Winchester. 4 Brothers Jimmie Barnes (Debbie) of Irvine, Johnie Barnes (Helen) of Berea, Raleigh Barnes (Cindy) of Indiana, Tommy Barnes (Pam) of Irvine and 4 Grandchildren: Cole, Erin, Avery, and Simon Kissick

Estill is survived by his loving wife, Edna (Young) Isaacs of Richmond.

In addition to his parents, Estill was preceded in death by his son, James Estill Isaacs.

Craig Leffler was born May 14, 1984 in Richmond and departed this life Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berea, being 31 years of age. He was the son of Hurshel & Wava (Isaacs) Leffler of McKee.

In addition to his parents, Craig was also survived by his wife, Christy (Towe) Leffler of McKee and by two brothers, Dwayne Leffler of Richmond and Scott Leffler of Berea. He was blessed with one niece, Brook Leffler.

Craig was of the Baptist Faith.

Funeral service was held 2:00PM Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home McKee with Bro. Ellis Abner officiating. Burial followed in the Grassy Springs Cemetery. Visitation was at 12 Noon Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Funeral Home.
