Matthew Curtis Wade, 27, died Monday, June 15, 2015. Matthew was born on March 2, 1988, in Fort Bragg, N.C., to Darien Wade and Pamela Smith Wade.

Matthew was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and was employed at Lowe’s of Richmond.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step-mother, Jennifer Wade; sister, Caitlin Wade; brother, Caleb Wade; grandparents, Don and Margie Smith and Don and Viley Wade.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 6 p.m, at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing, lead by Kaleb Heitzman. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America.

Joann Watkins

Joann Watkins, 71, of Richmond, passed away June 13, 2015, at Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.
She is survived by: her husband of 47 years, Joseph Watkins; two sons, Stanley and Jim Bob Watkins of Richmond; one grandson, Cody Watkins (Stevie); a special great-granddaughter, Sophie of Nicholasville, Ky.; four brothers, Robert Young (Kris) of Florida, Lewis Young (Ann), of Frankfort, Ky., Jimmie Young (Vivan) and Clay Young (Edith) of Richmond; and by several nieces and nephews whom all loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Green and Ida Young, and one special nephew, Billy Young.

Joann was a faithful member of Rosedale Baptist Church, Richmond and a devoted member of the church’s Prayer Team.

A memorial service will be conducted 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Rosedale, 411 Westover Ave. A time of visitation will precede the service from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

William Randall Dudley, 52, son of Arthur McClellan and the late Mary “Coogie” Dudley Bell, died Thursday, June 18, 2015.

Visitation begins 4 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2015, with his funeral at 5 p.m., both at Saint Paul AME Church, 437 Francis Street, in Richmond.

Kurt Allen Bouren

Kurt Allen Bouren, 51, of Richmond, the husband of Beth Ethridge Bouren, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015. Kurt was born on November 29, 1963, in Royal Oak, Mich. to Pamela Mary Bouren Daniels and Earl Bouren.

He lived in Michigan until 1975, when his family moved to Lexington. In 1983, Kurt graduated from Layfayette High School. He attended the University of Kentucky where he was an accounting major.

On July 26, 1986, Kurt married Beth Ethridge at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Owensboro, Ky. He was employed in the mortgage loan and home improvement industries for 20-plus years.

Kurt loved the game of baseball, and in past years coached his sons’ little league teams and played on fast-pitch softball traveling teams. He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, and was an avid Kentucky basketball fan. He will be remembered for supporting his sons in all their endeavors, his love for family and friends, his charismatic personality, his contagious laughter, a smile that could light up the world.

Survivors include his wife Beth; his three sons: Myles Bouren, of Lexington, Hayden Bouren, of Kings Bay, Ga., and Dalton Bouren, of Richmond. Also surviving are his mother, Pamela Daniels (Jack); a sister, Dawn Bouren Hickey, of Richmond; a niece, Erin Hickey; a nephew, Conner Hickey, and lifelong friend, Lowell Jackson.

Funeral service for Kurt Bouren will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home with Brother Matthew Webster officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Timothy W. Williams, 48, son of Gloria Anna Henry Williams, passed away Monday. Mr. Williams was a native of Cincinnati, OH, a son of Gloria Anna Henry Williams and the late Albert “Butch” Williams.

Mr. Williams was a New York Jets fan, and a University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, and enjoyed watching all manner of sports. Survivors other than his mother Anna include his brother Jimmy (and wife Christy) Williams; his nieces Lindy Griffith, Kirsti Williams, and Elyssia Williams

Services will be held Friday, June 19th, 2015, 2:00 pm at Lewis Funeral Home, with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Friends may call after 12:00 pm until service time. Burial will follow in the Witt Cemetery.

Mary Allen Mink Tipton, 79, of Richmond, the widow of Dick Cobb Tipton, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Baptist Health – Lexington. Mary was born on April 2, 1936 to the late Thomas Gibson Mink and Ethel Douglas Mink.

She was a Beautician at Hairmasters Salon in Richmond, Kentucky and was a member of the First Christian Church. Mary was a former board member of the First Christian Church and a member of the Cecilian Club, a former member of the Madison Singers and a longtime member of the Richmond Choral Society. She also served for 40 years as a member of the Chancel Choir at First Christian Church and was active in Christian Womens Fellowship at First Christian Church.

Survivors include: one son, Dick Cobb Tipton, II, of Richmond; three daughters, Betsy Tipton Grise, Ann Kelly Smith (Kenny), and Mitzi Tipton, all of Richmond; five grandchildren, Leigh Grise Koetsch (Geoff), Robbie Grise (Tara), Andy Smith (Ryan), Corey Kenton Smith, Jacob Smith; two great-granddaughters, Ann Bailey Smith and Scarlett Elizabeth Koetsch; a brother-in-law, Butch Tipton (Carol); and her beloved pet, Gracie.

Funeral services for Mary Tipton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the First Christian Church of Richmond with Rev. Glenn Birkett and Rev. Bob Vickers officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at First Christian Church.

Hazel Marie Ginter, 72, of Richmond, passed away on Saturday June 13, 2015, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond, Kentucky. She was born on February 9, 1943 in Clark County, Kentucky to the late June Woodford and Rachel Roberts McPhearson.

Hazel was of the Baptist faith and she worked for many years in the grocery business as a cahier in North Carolina prior to moving back to Kentucky. She liked to cook, especially candy, Hazel loved to spend time with her grandson J.T. Ginter.

Survivors include her husband, James Thomas Ginter; one son, Jim Ginter (Becky) of Richmond, KY; one grandson, J.T. Ginter of Richmond, KY; two brothers, June Woodford McPhearson Jr. of Mt. Sterling, KY and Stephen McPhearson of Newby, KY; one sister, Margaret McPhearson of Brandenburg, KY; several nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by one son, John Ginter; three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. John Clem officiating services. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Meril Rose 92 of Jackson County passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Meril was born in Jackson County to the late Robert and Lillie Callahan Rose.

He was a self-employed farmer.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by several siblings.

He is survived by his wife Nora Jean Hoskins Rose, four children Meril (Judy) Rose Jr., Kathy McKinney, Imogene (Larry) Bolin and Mel (Leah) Rose, two brothers Mack Rose and Riley Rose and one sister Mae Witt. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with Bro. Leonard Wilder officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Jackson County. Visitation will be Saturday from 6- 9pm at the Funeral Home.

Lonnie W. Kendrick age 69 of Berea, died Tuesday June 16, 2015 in Berea. Lonnie was born in Garrard County to the late Henry Lee and Nola Sparks Kendrick.

He had been employed by Nacco Industries in Berea.

Lonnie was also preceded in death by a brother Wayne Kendrick and sisters Thelma Harold and Pauline Murray, and two infant siblings Arnold and Helen Kendrick.

Lonnie is survived by his brothers; Marion Ellis Kendrick, Noel Kendrick, and Delmer Kendrick.

Funeral services will be Friday June 19, 2015 at 11 am at Lakes Funeral Home Berea with Rev. Kenny Davis officiating, burial will be in the Cartersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 pm at the Funeral Home.

George Edwin Lisenby

George Edwin Lisenby age 77 of Richmond, Indiana died Tuesday June 16, 2015. George was born in Miranda City, Texas to the late Quincy Paul and Mildred Iris Lisenby.

He was retired from Perfect Circle and veteran of the National Guard. He was a member of the NRA, an avid Civil War hobbyist and loved antique cars.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a daughter Connie Denise Lisenby and one sister Nelda J. Walker who died in 1976.

He is survived by his wife Lorain Wilds Lisenby, his children Marilyn Tevis of Galt, California, Fonda Wilds of Richmond, IN, Tami Blalock of Shoals, NC and Blaine VanWinkle of Richmond, IN: four brothers Johnny Lisenby, who went MIA in Korea in 1952, Vannah Lisenby of West Monroe, LA, Charles R. Lisenby of Richmond, IN and Joseph G. Lisenby of Palmer, AK: 11 grandchildren Stacey Schrock, Tara Staver, Nita Gayheart, Luc Shull, Natisha Lisenby, Phillip Blalock, Michelle Lisenby, Steven Tevis, Stevona Tevis, Anissa Tevis and Kyler Tevis: and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Birtie Jane Browning Duerson, age 85, widow of Earl B. Duerson, died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Mrs. Duerson was born January 25, 1930 in Paint Lick, Kentucky to the late William K. and Lula Margaret Underwood Browning.

She was a member of the Whites Memorial Presbyterian Church, an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan and she loved her family and her farm.

Mrs. Duerson is survived by her children, Earl Douglas Duerson of Paint Lick and Debra Jane Duerson (Ernest) Swinford of Berea, KY, her grandson Daniel Earl Duerson of Berea, KY, and her sisters, Christine Sebastian of Lancaster, KY., and Mirtie Naylor of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Other than her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and John Browning.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service.

Ronald Eugene Frye, 200 Walnut Hill Dr., Richmond, KY, born in Punxsutawney, PA in 1933, passed away on Thursday, June 18th, 2015, after a lengthy illness.

A dedicated and loving husband and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Inez C. Frye in 2001.

He is survived by his three sons; Gregory P. Frye of Colorado, Robert A. Frye of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Randall E. Frye of Sevierville, TN; and by his three grandchildren September Hall of Richmond, KY, Garrett Frye of Kansas City, MO, and Kari Frye of Berea, KY.

Marsh Clark Orttenburger, 64, died on Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Richmond, Kentucky, at his home. Marsh was born on September 11, 1950, to Margaret Arnold Orttenburger and the late Clark Kellogg Orttenburger.

Marsh was retired and was most recently co-owner of Pally’s. He was also the long-time owner of City Distributing Company, Richmond Ice Company, and Richmond Distributing.

With a smile that could light up any room, Marsh will be remembered for his big heart and as everyone’s “Pally.”

He is survived by his son, Lane Clark Orttenburger and his fiancé Ashleigh Pugh, and their son, Aiden Lane Orttenburger; his wife of 26 years, Freda H. Orttenburger; his mother, Margaret Orttenburger; his sister, Margaret Sutherland and her husband Lewis Sutherland; his nephew Chad Hall and his wife Stacey, and their son Austin; his cousin Marilyn Williams and her husband Jimmy Dale Williams.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clark Kellogg Orttenburger.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 20, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Oldham, Roberts, & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Richmond Cemetery, Monday, June 22, at 10 AM and will be presided over by The Rev. Charles D. Ellestad.

Charles Michael Arvin, 40, husband of Heather Bree Russell Arvin, passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015. Charles was born, September 10, 1974 in Richmond, KY to Charles and Lillie Lavonne Smith Arvin.

He was a mechanical engineer at the University of Kentucky.

Other than his wife Heather and his parents Charles and Lavonne, he is survived by a sister Jennifer (Greg) Mayo, his maternal grandmother Lorene Smith, his mother-in-law Patricia Pinczewski-Lee, his nieces and nephews Jentzen, Chloe, Ally and Lindsay. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles a host of cousins.

Charles was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Grafton Smith, paternal grandmother Louise Embree Arvin, paternal grandfather Charles Arvin and his father-in-law David Thompson.

Nellie “Nell” Pearl Rollins Prewitt, 90, of Cadiz KY, wife of Kyle J. Prewitt, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015. Mrs. Prewitt was born on October 28, 1924 in Richmond, KY to the late Tommie and Esther White Rollins.

She was a former waitress and homemaker, and was a member of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include: one daughter, Ethel Mae Payne Bishop (Billy) of Stamping Ground; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: two daughters, Charlotte Fryer and Jean Smith; two sisters, Jeanette Powers, and Betty Estes.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Rev. Butch Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 AM Monday, at the funeral home.

Maureen Friend

Maureen “Rene” Paula Flynn Friend, of Florence, formerly of Richmond, was welcomed into Heaven on June 15, 2015. She was born in California to Paul and Diane Flynn on February 25, 1958, the middle child of their five children, Margaret, Michael, Maureen, Matthew and Marrianne.

In 1972, Maureen and her family moved to Kentucky while she was in her teen years. .

Married for 40 years, Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, Bill. Maureen is also survived by her two children, Patrick and Amanda to whom she was “Momma”, her father, Paul, and his wife, Betty, her siblings Margaret, Michael and Marrianne, her grandchildren Zachary and Ryann, to whom she was “Grammy”. She also leaves numerous members of her beloved family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Diane, step-father, Len, and brother, Matthew.

Maureen’s greatest passion was her family. She especially loved doting on her grandchildren and planning, organizing and preparing meals for family gatherings. Her life was also dedicated to her friends and caring for children. She was a Director with Madison County Special Olympics and for 27 years worked for the Madison County Board of Education.

Maureen will be remembered for her special gift of creativity and crafts, her outstanding culinary and decorating skills, her green thumb and how much she cared for other’s comfort and happiness. Even as her health deteriorated, she never lost her wonderful sense of humor.

A celebration and memorial service for Maureen will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond with Chuck Myser officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the church.

Carl Edward “Buddy” Marshall, 78, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Marshall was born on January 5, 1937 in Richmond to the late Robert and Christine Whitaker Marshall. He retired from the Madison County Board of Education and was a member of the Peytontown Baptist Church.

He is survived by: one son, John Edward Marshall (Brenda), one daughter, Roberta Burnell (Kevin); two sisters, Mattie Sue Shelton (James) and Linda Faye Smith; four grandchildren, Tanya Marshall, Stephanie Harrison (Junior), Chris Burnell, and Brandy Burnell; three great-grandchildren, Halee, Trentin and Collin; care-giver, George Kaylor; long-time care-giver, Sonya Hobbs; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, families and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Pennington Marshall; one daughter, Anna Marie Marshall; and one sister, Dorothy Marshall Parsons.

He was an Electrical Inspector for Madison County and a big time UK Basketball fan.

Kenneth Wayne Vanzant

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Vanzant, age 63 of Orlando, died Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was born in Richmond, IN on Jan. 1, 1952 the son of William Kenneth and Lena Goins Vanzant.

He was a retired employee of the VA Medical Center. He enjoyed fishing, wood working, traveling, and spending time with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Virginia “Gin” Mullins Vanzant; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kristy Vanzant of Orlando; a sister, Darlene Proctor and husband Derrell of Covington; and his grandchildren, Ethan, Alex, Lauren, and Jackson Vanzant. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Kenneth and Lena Vanzant.

Visitation will be from 6-9 PM Monday, June 22 at Dowell & Martin Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at2 PM Tuesday, June 23 at the Funeral Home.

Rosie Cody was born December 8, 1951 in Leslie County and departed this life Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Rockcastle County Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, being 63 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Bill & Amy (Holbrook) Adams.

Rosie is survived by her husband, Henry Cody of McKee and by four children, Henry Cody Jr., and wife Sarah of Richmond, James Cody and wife Jessica of Berea, Alma Christina Anderson and husband Christopher of Gray Hawk and Janie Clear and husband Tony of Indiana. She is also survived by a brother, Billy Adams Jr. of Leslie County and by three sisters, Wilma Jean of London, Liza Cody of Indiana and Julie Turner of New York and by an uncle, Silas Adams of Leslie County. Rosie was blessed with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Rosie was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene & Raleigh Adams.

Rosie was of the Pentecostal Faith.

Funeral service was held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home McKee with Bro. Kip Wells and Bro. Brian Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery. Visitation was at 6:00PM Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Funeral Home.

Bonnie Lou Lynch was born November 20, 1970 in Estill County departed this life Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, being 44 years of age. She was the daughter of Coy & Phyllis (Smith) Oliver of Booneville.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie is also survived by her son, Christopher Dale Embry of Frankfort and by the following siblings, Denzil Lee Oliver of Tyner, Billy Paul Oliver and Betty Jo Hicks and husband Thomas of Cold Springs, Carolyn Spurlock and Norma J. Oliver both of Richmond.

Bonnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Coy Oliver Jr. and Irvine Anthony Smith.

She was of the Baptist Faith.

Funeral service was held 2:00PM Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home McKee with Bro. Eddy Judd officiating. Burial followed in the Brown & Strong Cemetery. Visitation was at 6:00PM Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Funeral Home.
