Lexington resident Geoff Young became the first Democrat to file papers to run against US Rep. Andy Barr in the election to be held in November, 2014. Mr. Young is a retired engineer who worked in Kentucky’s Energy Office in Frankfort to improve energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy – residential, industrial, commercial, and transportation.
Two other 6th District Democrats, Elizabeth Jensen and Michael Coblenz, have announced their intentions to challenge Barr, but neither has officially filed yet with the Ky. Secretary of State’s Office.
Mr. Young stated, “The people of the 6th District deserve a better representative than a Tea Party extremist who voted to let the United States default on our debts for reasons of mere partisan politics.”
“Mr. Barr’s proposed federal budget would add a huge tax burden to Kentucky’s middle-class families, would drive low-income Kentuckians into outright destitution, and would feed the richest 5% of the population,” he continued.
“If elected, I will only vote for budgets where (1) the numbers add up correctly, and (2) Kentucky’s working families are not irreversibly harmed.”
