Billy Gabbard was born September 25, 1944, in Jackson County and departed this life Thursday, September 19, 2013, at his residence, being 68 years of age. He was the son of the late Ted & Cora (Roberts) Gabbard.
Billy is survived by his wife, Margie (Johnson) Gabbard of McKee, and by his daughter, Renee’ Grant and her husband Allen of Richmond. He was blessed with two grandchildren, Brandon Grant and Alesha Grant. Other survivors include: a sister, Bertha Stevens of McKee; and three brothers, Garland Gabbard of Annville, Willard Gabbard of McKee and Floyd Gabbard of Brodhead.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by: a sister, Ada Marley, and three brothers, Dennis Gabbard, Carlos Gabbard and Edmund Gabbard.
Billy was a member and a deacon of the Letter Box Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Lakes Funeral Home in McKee, with Bro. Kenny Wilder, Bro. Mike McQueen, Bro. Shane Gabbard and Bro. Mark Gabbard officiating. Burial followed in the Farmer Cemetery. Visitation will be at 6:00PM Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the funeral home.
Burn Potter, age 81, died Saturday at The Terrace in Berea. He was a native of Knott Count, a retired factory worker, and a member of the Scaffold Cane Baptist Church. He attended Trinity Full Gospel Church.
Mr. Potter is survived by: his sons, Jesse B. Potter (Tina) of Berea, Bruce A. Potter (Teresa) of Paint Lick, Carlo Potter (Darla) of Mt. Vernon, Dennis Potter of Mt. Vernon, Terry Potter (Jaime) of Richmond, Billy Ray Potter (Rebecca) of Berea; his daughters, Brenda Kay Crain of Mt. Vernon, Eva Alexander (Donald) of Berea, Cora E. Gabbert (Russell) of Berea, Alice M. Fowler (Billy) of Berea; his twin brother Van Potter of St. Paul, VA; his sister, Mary Fleming of Rockcastle County. 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lewis and Polly Ann Bentley Potter; his son, David E. Potter and several brothers and sisters.

Michael Gene Blanton
Michael Gene Blanton, 51, of Richmond, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at Baptist Health – Richmond. Michael was born in Madison County on May 20, 1962 to William and Barbara Edington Blanton. He had worked for Star Manufacturing in Lexington. He enjoyed talking and visiting with his friends.
Survivors include: his father and mother: William and Barbara Edington Blanton of Richmond; two brothers: Billy Blanton and Debby and Richard Blanton, all of Richmond; his sister: Virginia Simpson and Keith of Richmond; three nieces: Lori Ann Blanton, Nicole Blanton (Matt Farthing) and Lissy Simpson; four great nephews: Dustin Blanton, Skylar Fryer, Matthew Harding and William Harding.

Sudie Lou Sizemore
Born on December 5, 1954, in Corbin, Whitley County, Ky., Sudie “Susie” Lou Sizemore of Richmond, Ky., left this world behind on September 19, 2013. She’s made her final journey and has now joined her beloved parents, Bro. Roscoe & Sis. Lizzie Wilder Sizemore in her eternal home of peace & rest.
Susie was a mother, grandmother, gospel singer, a published poet and active in her card ministry, but most of all she was a blood-bought, born-again Christian.
She was brought up in the Pentecostal Holiness faith – accepting Jesus as her personal Savior & filled with the Holy Ghost at the early age of 12. After years away from church, she rededicated her life to Christ in August 1994.
She started attending the Richmond House of Prayer in June 2001, became a member in October 2001 and remained a member at the time her passing. She most recently attended First Baptist Church and was an active participant in Sunday school.
Susie is survived by: a daughter, Angie Martin of Richmond, Ky.; a son, Chris Martin and “daughter-in-law” Aisha “Itchy” Chenault, both of Richmond, Ky.; four grandchildren, Dominic Parks, Aryanna Martin, Aaron Martin and Logan Martin, all of Richmond, Ky.; a sister, Jeweleen Hormann of West Plains, Mo.; a brother, Melvin (Debby) Smith of Berea, Ky.; a sister in law, Judy Smith of Berea, Ky.; her namesake, Tina Sue Smith of Berea, Ky.; three “Ya-Ya sisters, Judy Singleton of Winchester, Ky., Mary Brown of Richmond, Ky., and Joan Ramsey of Denver, Colo.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family & friends.

Carlie Grant Saylor
Carlie “Libby” Grant Saylor, age 77, widow of Lon Reginald Saylor, Sr. died at her home in Taylor Mill, Ky., on Thursday, September 19, 2013. A native of Berea, she was born to the late John J. and Gladys Johnson Grant.
Mrs. Saylor was of the Baptist faith and retired from Berea College after 25 years of service as the payroll manager.
Mrs. Saylor is survived by her children: John Britton (Annette) Saylor of Taylor Mill, Ky., and Rena Saylor (Skip) Morehead of Covington, Ky. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by: her son, Lon Reginald Saylor Jr.; and two brothers, Jack and Warren Grant.

Austin Tyler “Little Man” Kelly, 17, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at his home. Austin was born in Sarasota, Fla., on August 10, 1996, to Jennifer Kelly and Curtis Kelly.
Austin was a very special guy who was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed his trips to CiCi’s Pizza and Lake Reba with his special caregiver Keith Williams. Austin had a contagious smile and loved his family and friends.
Survivors include: his mother, Jennifer Kelly (John Cooper); his father, Curtis Kelly; grandparents Harold & Cathy Rowe, Martha Lee Kelly, and James K. Allis II; brothers Joshua, Curtis and Aaron; sister Jennalyn and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

James R. Hall
James R. “Jimmy” Hall, 72, of Richmond, husband of Mary E. Rison Hall, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Mr. Hall was born in Madison County on July 31, 1941 to the late Robert and Margaret Johns Hall.
He was of the Christian Faith and had retired from Home Lumber Company in Richmond. He also served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed wood working, had great mechanic skills and was a dog lover, as well. He was known by many in Madison County as their Little League Baseball Coach.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hall is also survived by his son: Chad Hall and wife, Stacey of Richmond; his brother: Marvin Hall and wife Marianne of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister: Joyce Campbell and husband Earl of Richmond; his grandson: Austin Hall and two nieces: Margaret Hurt and husband, John and Suzanne Campbell.
His family by marriage includes: two daughters: Sandra Dobson and husband, Dean of Irvine and Vickie White and husband, Jeff of Lexington; six grandchildren: Joey Dobson and wife, Andrea, Deborah Agee, Brianna Swain and husband, Ryon, Alicia Baker and husband, Josh, Andrea White and Brinley White and two great-grandchildren: Devon Marie Bryant and Sara Griffin.

Kelly J. Lee
Kelly J. Lee, 73, of Richmond, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013. He was born January 31, 1940 to the late Houston and Lizzie Longmire Lee in Wheeler, Ky. He was a self-employed master electrician and owned his own heating and air business.
He was of the Christian Protestant faith and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include: three sisters, Mary Wanda Hurst and Linda Lawson, both of Corbin, Ky., and Merita Lee Thompson of Richmond, Ky. He is also survived by 25 much-loved nieces and nephews, as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and special friends.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death: by three brothers, Kenneth Lee, Billy Wayne Lee and Melvin Lee; and two sisters, Juanita Lee Bain and Nina Lee Miller.
A memorial service for Kelly will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home
Martha Alice Gulley Perkins
Martha Alice Gulley Perkins, 94, the widow of Fred Perkins, passed away Monday morning, September 16, 2013, at the Terrace in Berea. Mrs. Perkins was born on November 27, 1918, in Leroy, Illinois, the daughter of the late Earl Sr. and Lucy Mae Broaddus Gulley.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Westside Christian Church and the Bethel Ladies Aid. She and her late husband Fred owned and operated the Perkins Grocery at Valley View, Kentucky. She was also a retired clerk for Thornberry’s Super Valu.
Survivors include: her granddaughter, Janet Humes Bucher (Gary); one brother, Earl Gulley Jr. (Nancy); two grandsons, Chris Bucher (Monica) and Burt Bucher (Abby); a niece, Kim Owens (Jerry); and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her daughter, Alene Perkins Humes; a sister, Christine Gulley; and a dear friend, Joe Hacker.

Irene Click Murphy
Irene Click Murphy, 73, of Poosey Ridge, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013, at Baptist Health–Richmond. Irene was born in Jackson County on March 24, 1940, to the late Herbert and Myrtle Stewart Click.
She retired from the Madison County Detention Center as a deputy jailer and was a member of the Gilead Baptist Church.
She is survived by: two sons, David Murphy (Mishana) and Jimmy Murphy (Cathy), both of Richmond; three sisters, Bettye Vrooman, Margaret Dugan and Wanda Click; three grandchildren, Nick Murphy (Brooke), Jaysa Murphy and Savannah Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Sierra Graves and Hunter Murphy; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: several of her brothers and sisters, Edith Rutherford, Phyllis Goins, Jack Click, Richard Click, Eugene Click, Carlos Click, Dorothy Renfro, Marie Katherine Click, Evalene Click and Nella Dean Click; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Graves.

Santa Virginia Fernandez, 53, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at her home. She is the daughter of Virginia Mae Bowling of Lawrenceburg and the late Manuel D. Fernandez.
Santa was born Feb. 19, 1960, in Lexington and grew up in Versailles, Ky. While living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she attended college and worked in banking. She later moved to Richmond, Ky., and served as a Hospice volunteer in Berea.
Including her mother, Santa is survived by two brothers, David M. Fernandez (Mary) of Richmond, Ky. and James Anthony “Tony” Fernandez of Atlanta, Ga.; five nieces and nephews, Daniel and John David Fernandez, Alec, Anthony and Aimee Alvarez.
She is also preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Alvarez, and an infant brother, Dudley Fernandez.
Santa chose cremation. No public services will be conducted. The Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lena VanZant, age 87 of Orlando, died Friday, Sep. 20, 2013 at Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond. She was born in Williamsburg, KY on Dec. 6, 1925 the daughter of Roscoe and Daisy Faulkner Goins.
She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness Faith. She enjoyed working puzzles and crocheting.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Wayne VanZant and wife Virginia of Orlando; a daughter, Darlene Proctor and husband Derrell of Covington; three brothers, J.D. Goins, Emanuel Goins, and Cliff Goins, all of Williamsburg; and two sisters, Omega Goins of Williamsburg and Artis Goins of Kokomo, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Steven Proctor and Candy, Kyle Proctor and wife Alisha, Adam Proctor and wife Stephanie, and Ronnie VanZant and wife Kristy; and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth VanZant; and two sisters.

Mr. James Kidwell age 63, of Mt.Vernon passed away Thursday September 19th, 2013 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. He was born on September 6th, 1950 in Rockcastle County the son of Mrs. Myrtle Stevens Kidwell of Mt.Vernon, and the late David Kidwell.
He was a retired mechanic & gas station operator, and was a member of the Cupps Chapel Pentecostal Church.
Survivors besides his mother are: his wife; Mrs. Judy Bullock Kidwell of Mt.Vernon. One step-son; Shannon York, and wife Lisa of Lexington. Five daughters; Jennifer Fish (Andy) of Berea, Sheila Kidwell of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Shanna Lunsford (Butch) of Mt.Vernon, Missy Kidwell of Brodhead, and Kirsty York of Mt.Vernon. Three sisters; Betty McFerron, Julia Blackburn, and Peggy Lawson all of Mt.Vernon. Six grandchildren; Mathew Lunsford, Jaleigha York, Sharla Kidwell, Richie Fish, Jahrisa York, and Alyssa York also survive. Besides his father he was preceded in death by: one brother; Bobby Gene Kidwell, by one half-brother; William David Kidwell. and by one sister; Linda McWhorter.

Mrs. Hazel Burdette age 92, passed away Friday August 16, 2013 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Berea. She was born on November 27, 1920 in Rockcastle County the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertha York Burdette. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Brindle Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors are: two sons; James Morris of Mt.Vernon, and Rodger Morris of Homosassa, Florida. Two daughters; Billie Sharon Hiers of Readington Shores, Florida, and Lisa Hounshell of Shelbyville, Indiana. Ten grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by: two husbands; Linzie Morris, and Everette Burdette.

Glendon Ray White
Glendon Ray White, age 73, of Drowning Creek Ridge Road in Irvine passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond following a long illness. He was born May 13, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late Cecil and Effie Rose White.
He was a retired Trane Company employee and was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
He is survived by His wife Hester Neal White, 1 daughter Ladonna Ellen Faye Reed of Estill Co., 2 brothers Tommy White of Winchester, Robert White of Madison Co., 1 grandchild Sierra Cheyenne Reed, and Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeaness Moatts, a niece, Becky Ann Grey and a nephew, Cecil Darrell Moatts.

Lester Lakes was born September 21, 1921 in Jackson County and departed this life Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Berea Health Care Center, being 91 years of age. He was the son of the late Richard & Eva (Johnson) Lakes.
Lester is survived by his son, Ronnie Lakes and his wife Vicky of Berea. He is also survived by a brother, Burchell Lakes of McKee and by five sisters, Joyce Wade of McKee, Ellen Abrams of Hamilton, OH, Ruth Hall of Berea, Ruby Allen of McKee and Shirley Thompson of Winchester. Lester was blessed with three grandchildren, Kevin Lakes, Cami Lowry and Chris Lakes and by six great grandchildren, Shelby Lakes, Abby Lowry, Kali Lakes, Maggie Lakes, Tyler Lowry and Cristen Lakes.
In addition to his parents, Lester was also preceded in death by his wife Maggie (Ward) Lakes; by his step mother, Letha Lakes and by the following siblings, Ernest, Virgil, Wendell and Bernell Lakes.
Lester was a member of the McKee Baptist Church; a former board member at PRTC and was a Mason.

Seldon Toler of Sand Gap, was born June 19, 1924 in Lee County and departed this life Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Berea, being 89 years of age. He was the son of the late Mark & Rosa (Barrett) Toler.
Seldon is survived by his wife, Geraldine Toler and by four children, Ronnie Toler and his wife Marsha, Douglas Toler and his wife Novella, Patricia Turner and her husband Skip and Randal Toler all of Sand Gap. He is also survived by one brother, Hubert Toler of Waneta. Seldon was blessed with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Seldon was of the Pentecostal Faith.

David Ball was born May 18, 1981 in Richmond, KY and departed this life on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, being 32 years of age. He was the son of Freddie & Judy (Kirby) Ball of McKee.
In addition to his parents, David is also survived by his wife, Rita (Hacker) Ball; two children, Hunter & Hannah Ball and by a brother, Danny Ball all of McKee.
David was a member of the Egypt Pentecostal Church.

William Oscar Kelley
William Oscar Kelley was born July 9, 1958 in Madison County to the late Mason and Alean (Kelley) Foster. He passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at his residence, being 55 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Debra Tillery Kelley; two sons, Robert Jake Tillery and William Dearron Kelley and three grandchildren, Dakota Lashea Tillery, Robert Austin Tillery and Ethan Royce Tillery. He is also survived by twelve siblings, Rena Matthews, Connie (Glen) Brown, Susie Kelley, Sherry (William) Matthews, Terry (Alma) Kelley, Anthony Kelley, Darron (Melissa) Kelley, Keith Kelley, Kenneth Kelley, James Dale Foster, Christopher Foster, Randy (Kim) Foster and by several nieces and nephews.
He was of the Holiness Faith.
Funeral service was held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Lakes Funeral Home McKee with Bro. Jason Brown officiating. Burial followed in the Pilgrams Rest Cemetery. Visitation was at 6:00PM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gary & Willie Matthews, Cameron Hager, Kenneth Lovett, Dwayne Mullins, Daniel Foster, Glen & Billy Brown.
