Alice Faye Moore

Alice Faye Moore

Alice Faye Moore age 70 of Calico Road, passed away Sunday evening at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Alice was born in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Edgar and Ollie Plyman Combs. She was a homemaker and member of the Berea Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, Alice was also preceded in death by her four brothers Harold, Bill, Joe and Bert Combs. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 51 years Charles Moore, 7 children Kelley Hackworth, Pamela Rourk, Charles (Darla) Moore Jr., Stephanie (Dwight) Brown, Bernadette (Glen) Branham, William (Michelle) Moore and Scott (Amber) Moore, two sisters Sallie Jones and Phyllis Martin, 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two more great grandchildren (twins) on the way.

Funeral services will be Thursday October 6, 2011 at 1 pm at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Charles E. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Wesley Moore, Jeremy Moore, Dana Moore, Brian Harrison, Jason Kenworthy and Cody Cromer. Honorary bearers will be Brandon Moore, Charles Moore III, Joshua Thomas, Vernon Jones, Dwayne Branham and Roman Rozell.

Ralph “Dueg” Gross

Ralph “Dueg” Gross, 77, son of the late Sam and Gracie Crawford Gross, passed away Saturday October 8, 2011 at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center. Ralph was a native of Estill County, a farmer and he was of the Holiness faith.

He is survived by two sisters Velma Powell and Alphie Tipton and many nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Rothel, Clyde, Billy Finley and Durby Gross as well as four sisters Mary Townsend, Nettie Wilburn, Margie Marshall and Stella Townsend.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday October 11, 2011 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Northern officiating. Burial will follow in the Gross Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Wilburn, Ronnie Gross, Richard Townsend, Tony Davis, Tommy Wilburn and Josh Gross. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathan Wilburn, Aaron Parks, Kenny Marshall, Melissa Parks, Tammy Powell and Lucinda Lavough.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. Monday October 10, 2011 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Billy Earl Kaylor, 78, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be Wednesday October 12, 2011 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Northern officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Wanda Smyth Carroll

Wanda Smyth Carroll

Wanda Smyth Carroll, 79, of Bend Road in Waco, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.

Wanda was born on July 8, 1932 at College Hill, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Wayne and Nancy Walden Smyth, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a masters degree in education, and retired from the Cabinet of Families and Children Community Based Services. Wanda was a member of Flatwoods Christian Church, and enjoyed reading, farming, and helping others.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles Wayne Carroll (Cathy), of Versailles, Kentucky, and James Patrick Carroll (Debra), of Nashville, Tennessee; and three grandchildren, Patrick Ian Carroll, Elizabeth Carroll, and Taylor Harrison Carroll.

Funeral services for Wanda Smyth Carroll will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Tim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2011 from 2:00- 4:00 p.m. at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Wall, Jack Medlock, E.C. “Bud” Cornelison, Bill Noble, Chris Johns, Trent Randal and Buzz Cornelison.

Eula Drake

Eula Winker Drake

Eula Winker Drake, 89, formerly of Berea, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at the home of her son in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was born in Estill County on April 5, 1922, to B.U. and Vianna Spivey Winkler. She was a school teacher in Estill County before her marriage, and she was later employed and retired from Parker-Hannifan Corporation in Berea. She was known for her love of flowers, gardening and cooking, but especially was known for her love of family. Mrs. Drake was a member of Pilot Knob Baptist Church, which she attended faithfully before her illness.

Survivors include her daughter: Judy Short (J. Roger) of Berea; her son: Art Drake of Sterling Heights, MI and his fiancé, Carole Frenell of Rochester Hills, MI; two brothers: Gene Carter Winkler (Nola) and Jay Winkler; her twin sister: Beulah Richardson; three grandchildren: Chris Short (Liz), Brett Short and Eric Short and three great-grandchildren: Tyler Scott Short, Logan Thayer Short, and Laken Nicole Cameron (fiance’ Coty Childress); her former grand-daughter-in-law: Danyell Short, and several cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Drake is preceded in death by her husband: Willard Drake; four brothers: Irvine Winkler, William Art Winkler, B. U. Winkler, Jr. and Pete Winkler and her sister: Violet Hake.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the Pilot Knob Baptist Church, 8091 Battlefield Memorial Hwy, Berea, with Rev. Robert Taylor and Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:30 P.M. Tuesday and after 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Chris Short, Brett Short, Eric Short, Tyler Short, Logan Short, J. Roger Short and Edwin Glenn Winkler, Jr.

Billy Ray Stone

Billy R. Stone

Billy R. Stone, 77, a Purple Heart recipient and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, passed this world, Thursday October 6, 2011 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was the son of Grant Everett and Minnie McCreary Stone, both of whom preceded him in death.

Billy was a self taught pilot; he was a former instructor pilot at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, prior to becoming a civilian pilot at the Lexington Army Depot for many years.

He joined the Corinth Christian Church at a young age. In recent years, he served his Master as a deacon and elder until recently when his failing health prevented him from attending services.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Stone, two sons Gregory Stone of TN and James Stone of Richmond. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Kristin (Jon) Holmes of Washington, D.C., Bianca Marie Stone of Johnson City, TN and Briana Rae Stone of Irvine, KY a sister Donna (Douglas) Reams , a sister-in-law Rosie Stone, a special nephew Danny Castle and his family as well as numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday October 8, 2011 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be his sons Greg and Jim Stone as well as Danny Castle, Marty Castle, William Stone, John R. Fitch and Kevin Hicks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bro. Billy and Doris Forquer, Johnnie V. Jones, Gary Long, Robert King Jr., Doug Reams, Frank F. Fitch, Eddie Whalen and Arlie Faulkner.

Virginia Little

RICHMOND — Virginia Dare Little, age 93, of Worthington, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011, in The Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing Assisted Living surrounded by family. She was born on September 11, 1918, in Madison County, Ky. She was preceded in death by: parents Robert and Susie Warren Whitaker; daughter, Marcia Roe; former husband, George G. Little; and nine brothers and sisters.

Virginia is survived by: daughter, Georgann (Paul) Insley; son, Thomas C. (Sandi) Little II; grandchildren, Laure (Kevin) Murray, Carrie (Eric) Park, Ryan T. Little and Mallory Little; great-grandchildren Meredith and Adam Murray, Mia, Morgan and Trevor Park; and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia attended Liberty Presbyterian Church in Delaware, Ohio. Memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Old Paint Lick Presbyterian Church, 8519 Richmond Rd., Paint Lick, KY 40461.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Odyssey Hospice, 540 Officecenter Pl., Gahanna, OH 43230, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements made by Schoedinger Worthington Chapel.

Georgia Mae Chasteen

Georgia Mae Chasteen age 79 of Jacks Creek Road in Richmond passed away Thursday at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Georgia was born in Cartersville to the late Audie and Mae Bryant Robinson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Berea Gospel Tabernacle Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister Nettie Moore, three brothers Alfred, Lloyd and Wesley Robinson and one grandson Christopher Head. She is survived by her husband Ralph Chasteen, seven sons Audie Michael (Brenda) Chasteen, Anthony Ralph Chasteen, Ronald Keith (Cathy) Chasteen, Roger Steven Chasteen, Jeffery Neal Chasteen, Donald Ray Chasteen and Jonathan Paul (Amy) Chasteen, one brother Frank Robinson, four sisters Katie Green, Betty Robinson, Louetta Williams and Virginia Ruth Conn, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday October 9, 2011 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Foster and Bro. John Isaac officiating. Burial will follow in the Cartersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

George W. Miller

Atlanta — George W. Miller, formerly of Richmond, brother of Eleanor Wearren, died Sept. 30, 2011, in Atlanta, Ga. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip AME in Atlanta. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the church. Arrangements by O. L. Hughes & Sons in Lexington

Gene Martin

Mr. Gene Martin age 81 went to be with his Lord on Oct. 3, 2011, after a long illness, he passed away at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. Gene was the oldest child of Henry Clay Martin and Addie Dooley Martin who preceded him in death.

Gene was a farmer, watch maker, and mechanic, but his greatest desires were to serve his Lord, love his wife, children and family, and to see the success of the Three Links Christian Church of which he was a member since age 14. On Sept. 11, 1951 Gene married his wife Darlene Davis and together they raised 6 children: Ann (Russell) Barron, Merita (Dallas) McGuire, Jerry (Debra) Martin, Ruth (Dennis) Venable, Jeffrey (Judy) Martin, David (Shawnda) Martin, and he treasured 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by 3 sisters; Mildred Newsome, Edith (Harold) Ballinger, Mabel (Armel) Davidson, and one brother Jack (Darlene) Martin, and a host of nieces and nephews and relatives and friends also survive Gene.

Funeral services will be Friday Oct. 7, 2011 at 2 pm at the Three Links Christian Church, with burial in the Phillips Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Lopez, Billy McGuire, Ryan McGuire, Matthew Martin, Justin Martin, and Chad Francisco, and Honorary pallbearers will be Dawson and Joshua Martin. Visitation will be Thursday Oct. 6, 2011 at Lakes Funeral Home, Berea from 6-9 pm. Sheila Faye Gilliam Chism

Sheila Faye Gilliam Chism, 45, wife of Mitchell Chism, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at the Compassionate Care Center. Sheila was born in Madison County on December 28, 1965 to Bobby and Marie Tipton Gilliam. She was a Christian and enjoyed time with her family and spoiling her grandsons.

In addition to her husband and parents, Shelia is survived by two sons: Michael Chism and Bobby Chism; her sister: Anna Dixon (Charles) and grandsons: James Chism, Josh and Kevin Lewis. Sheila is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Raymond and Laura Tipton and paternal grandparents: Ira and Mary Jane Gilliam.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Guiley officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 P.M. Thursday at the funeal home.

Pallbearers will be Charles Dixon, Kenneth Tipton, David Tipton, Ben Tipton, Leland Scarborough and Lee Scarborough. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald King, Robbie King, Claude Dixon, Tommy Perkins, Jack Richardson and Larry Richardson.

Greta G. Vilett

Greta G. Vilett, 76 of Stocker Drive, widow of John Vilett, passed away Saturday October 1, 2011 at Telford Terrace. Greta was born in Richmond, KY on June 17, 1935 to the late Vernon and Mary Benton Griggs. She was a Secretary with Federal Bureau of Investigation where she received a commendation from J. Edgar Hoover. After leaving the F.B.I., she went on to be a property manager for over 20 years in both Ohio and Connecticut and was a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by a son David (Laurie) Matthews of New Milford, CT, 2 step sons Pete (Karen) Vilett and Dave (Jeanne) Vilett both of California 2 brothers Bailey Griggs of Richmond, KY, Vernon Griggs of Tennessee, three sisters Jean Tucker, Stella Cobb both of Richmond, KY and Florence Perkins of Indiana. Greta is also survived by 2 grandchildren Kelsey Matthews, Kevin Matthews and 3 step grandchildren Nick Vilett, Kristin Vilett and Sami Vilett.

Sservice for Greta will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to services

Burial will be beside her husband in the Willow View Cemetery in Clifford Township, PA.
