James Arthur Smith

James Arthur Smith
James Arthur Smith, 71, widower of Emily Lizzie Roe Smith, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Corinth, Ky., May 17, 1939, to the late James Foster and Sylvia Lee Wynn Smith.

Mr. Smith was an active member of White Hall Baptist Church. He worked for Uncle Charlie’s Meats for a number of years. Mr. Smith was the former owner of Smith Sanitation and had recently retired from farming.

He is survived by: two sons, James Michael Smith and Johnny Keith Smith (Lisa), both of Lexington; three daughters, Cheryl Lane Smith Prater (John) of Nicholasville, Tammy Gaye Smith Crump (Tim) of Lexington and Letha Annette Smith Coleman (Kevin) of Richmond; one brother, Doug. C. Smith (Doris); one sister, Mary Judith Kingkade (George); 10 grandchildren, Chasity Rhodus (John), Jessica Cox (Eric), Cary Smith, Matthew Crump, Chelsea Crump, Tanner Smith, Hunter Smith, Jami Smith Norton, Molly Coleman and Emily Coleman; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Wood, Kennedy Cox, Colton Cox, Gunnar Rhodus and Taylor Cecere.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Lipscomb and Bro. Tim Beard officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 21, 2011, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Michael Smith, Matthew Crump, Cary Smith, Tanner Smith, Joey Smith, Allen Smith, Scott Kingkade and Tommy Wilburn.

Danny Joe Thacker, 37, died Friday.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Crestview Holy Sanctuary.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crestview Holy Sanctuary.

Jack Pensol
Jack Pensol, 57, widower of Mollie Sue Pensol, died Friday, February 18, 2011.
Mr. Pensol was born in Rockcastle County to the late Sollie V. and Christine Kirby Pensol.

Jack was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, cooking, and playing cards, especially Rook.

Survivors include: one daughter, Karen (Jeff) Langston of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; one son, Nathan (Becky) Pensol of Richmond, Ky.; one brother, Gary Pensol of London, Ky.; four sisters, Debra (Burchell) Parms of Richmond, Ky., Zola Kindred of Berea, Ky., Carseal Nipper of Richmond, Ky., and Louise Fryer of Richmond, Ky.; four grandchildren, Amber Langston and Katie Langston of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Elizabeth Pensol and Alyssia Pensol of Richmond, Ky. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, James Pensol and Glenn Pensol; and one sister, Betty Callihan.

Visitation for Mr. Pensol will be conducted 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at Turpin, Vice and Fritz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011, with Bro. Tommy Masters officiating. Burial will follow in Madison Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Spivey, Keith Spivey, Burchell Parms, Wayne Kirby, Rodney Wheeler and Allen Murphy.

James Michael Parker, 66, of Berea, died Saturday.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Hiatt Parker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 22, 2011, at Galilee Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pilot Knob Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at the church.

Kenneth Ray Alexander
Kenneth Ray Alexander, 53, died Friday, February 18, 2011, in Lexington, Ky.
Kenneth was the son of Willard Alexander and Virginia Sparks Alexander Banks.

Mr. Alexander lived most of his life in the Richmond area. He was a loyal and faithful employee of Premier Termite and Pest control. He was also a veteran, having received rank of sergeant and served his country stationed in Germany for several years.

Kenneth is survived by: his parents, Willard Alexander of Dayton, Ohio and Virginia Banks of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Will (Diane) Alexander of Morehead, Ky., Darrell Alexander of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Margie Allen of Richmond, Ky.; and a host of other relatives. Mr. Alexander is also survived by: one very special cherished cat, “Come On.” Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Sarah and Bev Sparks and Grace and Marion Alexander; and his sister, Cheryl Travis.

Visitation for Mr. Alexander will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m. at Turpin, Vice and Fritz Funeral Home. Bro. Dwayne Walker will officiate. Burial to follow in Flatwoods Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be family members.

Mary Halstead

Mary G. Halstead
Mary G. Halstead age 82 of Scaffold Cane Road passed away Friday February 18, 2011 at the St. Joseph Berea Hospital.

Mary was born in Berea to the late Holt and Grace Davis Goodrich. She was employed by Berea College in the bookstore for 45 years. Mary was a member of the Silver Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Jerry Halstead, her son Terry Halstead, three brothers Bill Goodrich, Holt Goodrich Jr., and Charlie Goodrich and one sister Bea McKinney.
Mary is survived by her grandsons Hank Halstead and his wife Angie and Swan Halstead, two great grandchildren Trevor Huff and Kaylee Halstead. Two sisters Ruth Colville and Peggy Halstead also survive her.

The family would like to give special thanks to her wonderful caregivers Connie Robertson of Berea and Geraldine Murphy of Jackson County.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Monday February 21, 2011 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Davis officiating. Entombment will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 am on Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Don McKinney, George Goodrich, Larry Goodrich, Danny Isaacs and Billy Linville.

Odis Ray Alexander
Odis Ray Alexander age 66 of Big Hill Road in Berea passed away Saturday February 19, 2011.
Odis was born in Jackson County to the late Thomas and Flora Alexander. He was a retired grounds keeper from Eastern Kentucky University.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers Jack Alexander and Wilbert Alexander. He is survived by his son Timothy Ray Alexander and his wife Jennifer, two grandchildren Taylor Ray-Ann Alexander and William Caleb Houston Alexander. Three siblings Hazel Chrisman, Shirley Combs and Thomas “Junior” Alexander also survive him.

Funeral services will be 2pm Wednesday February 23, 2011 at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. James Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Alexander, John Powell, Steven Combs, Glenn Combs, Jeff Abrams and David Chrisman. Honorary pallbearer will be Carl Jones and Donnie Abrams.

William Lee “Bill” Isaacs
William Lee “Bill” Isaacs, 57, of Red Lick Road, passed away Friday morning, February 18, 2010, in Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center. Mr. Isaacs was born October 5, 1953, in Richmond, Ky., the son of John B. and Kathleen Rogers Isaacs.

Survivors include: his wife, Dianna Poff Isaacs; two children, B.J. Isaacs (Felicia) and Melissa Powell (Christopher); his parents, John B. and Kathleen “Kat” Isaacs; one brother, Mike Isaacs (Sharon); six grandchildren, Tyler Powell, Logan Powell, Madison Isaacs, Payton Isaacs, Eli Isaacs and Dalton Lesson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Dottie Cheryl Croucher age 51 of Berea passed away Tuesday evening at her home.
Dottie was born in Mt. Vernon to the late Charles Clark and Stella Mae Himes. She was a cashier at Powell’s BP in Berea.

She is survived by her children Crystal (Hubert Hatton) Kaiser, Stephanie Kaiser and Brody Clem, one sister Connie (Wayne) Owens and one brother William Donald (Lora) Croucher. Her grandchildren Philip Dale, Bryan Charles, Paul Robert, Cotey (Jaimee) Hatton and Dallas Joe Hatton also survive her.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday February 19, 2011 at the Maple Grove Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Jerry Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnetta Cemetery in Rockcastle County. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-9 pm at the Maple Grove Baptist Church.
Lakes Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
